Well, I have a theory about when people become adults.
I think someone becomes an adult when they realise what being an adult is.... or more importantly, what it isn't.
That there is no moment of revelation, no moment where you're handed the Great Big Adult Book of Answers and Wisdom that will give you the answers and guidance you crave. Those insecurities and doubts and worries you have as a teenager? They persist. They'll be tempered by experience, and the perspective that only adults have (this, I think is the main difference between adults and teenagers - perspective and a sense of time).
That no-one is going to turn up with a clipboard and show you to your assigned house, introduce you to your assigned partner, tell you about your assigned job. You've got to sort all that stuff out for yourself, and your actions and inactions have consequences.

I still reckon that dealing with the physical realities of living and working as an adult is only half the job.
Emotional stuff, realising what life is about internally, THAT sort of growing up makes all the difference for me. You see, I try to only date men and have been caught out once or twice by dating boys who *looked* like men until you got past the good wages and nice house and decent car...

What about that moment that you realise that you are going to be grown up soon enough and its all a bit daunting? I was 13 when it dawned on me, that while I wasn't fully grown, my childhood was fully behind me. It was quite a mind shift.
Hiccup had the same revelation she was older, she described the losing of her childhood as a diminishing bubble around her that had somehow protected her, bubblewrapped by a sense of security, um, that gave a freedom from care.
My bubble popped, Hiccup's is just deflating, whereas once she was a mitchelin man she now has more of a ready brek glow (other tyres and cereal available)
Anyway that's just my thought of the day on growing up...

After careful thought I have concluded that you becomes a Man when you are comfortable enough in your own masculinity that you need not resport to stereotypically 'manly' behaviours to prove your manliness to yourself or others.
The ultimate test of this is whether you'll let the wife near the barbeque!

What like Nadal?
He's my ideal grown up man. He has a kind of feminine earthiness mixed with his sheer titanic manliness.
The best men have a kind of female caringness mixed with real masculinity. They are the only kind I feel truly comfortable with.

That's a terrible pun. Reminds me of when the ladies always wanted my submariner qualification dolphins. I always said "I had to go down on a submarine to get these. You want them.........................."
