Has Rock Become Meaningless?
CASSEROLEON Posted Apr 4, 2012
Nora Jones-- another fruit of the age of fusion.. I am not sure just why but when I heard the her the first time my memory was triggered by a mention of a "special friend" named Miss Jones in California by Ravi Shankar in his autobiography.

Today is April 12th, 2012
There had long been a 'hit parade' charting the
most popular tunes but on this day in 1955 the
very first rock and roll tune hit Number One.
http://youtu.be/pjBDK35FRjo
A few months later they became the first Rock band
to appear on the Ed Sullivan Show:

"on this day in 1955 the very first rock and roll tune ['Rock Around the Clock'] hit Number One.
Wiki mentions quite a few contenders: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Origins_of_rock_and_roll#.22The_first_rock_and_roll_record.22
I might link to some later.

Ah yes, there are many earlier 'rock' recordings.
I know many of them well. But to sharpen my point,
let me say again that this was the first to hit
the top of the Pop Charts, the first Rock song
to become Number One on the Hit Parade.
It was the week of April 12, 1955.
