We haven't got a moderation thread at the moment, I'd rather wait until we can talk a bit more before discussing that.
But I'd like to hear your

Hold on then - I'll go and create one in the Magrethea slot, as I do think it's a side issue.
It's cropped up a *lot* in discussions but I can't find one proper thread to discuss it all. Actually, I think a lot came up in the speaking other languages thread.
2 ticks, I'll be back with a URL...

Here you go. It's located in the Magrethea page for volunteers, which I thought was fitting.
So, back to the CEs... if we can!

I think there was some discussion in a thread early one (maybe the Stockholm thread?).

There's been discussion about mods and modding since 2001.
paulh pulled together something good summarising the threads at that point in time which we used in the GBD. I'll see if I can find what he wrote and post it back up, but that may not be until tonight.

Digital village elders?
I love it Mrs Zen.
Am going to start a separate thread on Ask, so that it doesn't get in the way of the HCE discussion.

ACEs deal with the nuts and bolts of keeping things going; welcoming and supporting new users and being the people 'on the ground' that know what's going on. Number = approx. 10? Possibly more or less as workload changes.
The CEs wouldn't deal with new users (unless there was a complaint, banning etc.). They would be concerned with keeping the Community informed of what was going on, trying to provide opportunities for people to get involved in the site and dealing with queries, complaints, concerns etc. of all users (and possibly non-members of the site if appropriate). They would check the ACEs were OK, but they wouldn't actually help out. Number = approx. 3, to be confirmed as the workload starts to be known.

I think 5 may be more workable, people are not working full time on this and have real lives and things. Time will tell.

Yeah, you're right. And certainly in the early days when there'll be a lot of stuff going on that we probably can't even guess at yet. *sigh*

Not exactly the same topic but it hast to do with all this:
I expect that changing the default message on people's PS is quite easy. We already had some talk about doing that, but what should really be on it so it is not too long but still gives all relevant information?

-A short welcome
-A link to either Peer Review or a page that outlines the different Review structures and how to submit Entries (I vote for the latter, but it's not yet written, of course).
-A link to Ask h2g2
-A link to The Post
-A quick note about how to update their Space

- a note that they should expect being greeted by an ACE soon?

And since you said in post 88 'The CEs wouldn't deal with new users'
This page change would be done by the ACEs not the CEs is that right?

Vip Posted Jun 11, 2011
The page change is an automatic thing. At the moment, until you update your Space there is a standard text that is displayed. We think it should be changed to something more useful.

>>> CEs wouldn't deal with new users?
Well yes, they wouldn't but not directly.
IF h2g2c2 took over the site then we wouldn't have any paid staff. But
The role of the community editors would be to do everything that the italics did regards to the community - and more.
They would be responsible for the new user experience. That wouldn't involve greeting every user personally, but it would involve making sure that there were enough ACEs to do the job, and checking that the ACEing was getting done. It would also involve making sure that the user experience was ok, and seeing that the help pages were up-to-date.

Except there are people who may not have had a chance to post ideas because they've only just caught up with the posts on this
