Depression

Thanks for the support people! What I had was called a "de-briefing" and I basically had to talk about all the things that'd made me feel like I am now in chronological order. It was very good to be able to just let everything out, and I cried quite a bit. However, when I go back to uni I'll have to find myself a different counsellor - hopefully she'll be able to take on where this one left off. I'm relieved that the first session went so well, but she says I shouldn't expect to improve very quickly and will need several sessions. It took nearly the whole hour even for me to say what all my issues were... I couldn't believe I had that many!!
Still, at least she didn't tell my mother to put me in a home!

If you ask your current counsellor to pass on notes to your new one, they should. You might have another de-briefing session though but you know what its like now, so I'm guessing it won't be as daunting.
I've read stuff by a number of different people that says counselling isn't really effective unless you have at least 8 sessions, with most people wanting more. In a sense it doesn't really end, instead you just learn to counsel yourself better, that's certainly been the case with me. I last went to counselling about 18 months ago and I still use the techniques I developed from it on a regualr basis
