Magwitch - My name is Mags and I am funky. Posted Oct 19, 2010
There's nowt wrong with musicals as my husband and boys will attest.
It's very dated, it was made in 1952, but how about 'Hans Christian Anderson' (we Danny Kaye) and while we're at it 'The Court Jester' (with a young Angela Lansbury). On the subject of Ms Lansbury, 'Mrs 'Arris Goes To Paris'
Yes, I'm showing my age
Bang up to date, however, Red (with Bruce Willis) might be worth a look when it comes to DVD.

My teenage nieces love Alex Rider in the books and the film (Stormbreaker) & Ice Castles - I thought the original was better but the new one is happier! - they really want to watch HSM for the 250th time but can be switched if enough persuasion is given.
The littlr'uns love musicals. Mary Poppins is a big hit at the moment as is Annie.
Disney & their kiddie ilk do a lot of feelgood live action films and some may be older but fab. The Three Musketeers, Homeward Bound, Mighty Ducks franchise, Karate Kid et al. How about The Secret Garden & A Little Princess or The Wolves of Willoughby Chase (latter is a bit dire but a bit of goodhearted fun)?

The Princess Bride being a given (although we can't watch it as a family, because mine get annoyed that I know all the words), I'll add another vote for Enchanted.
On no account watch Bridge to Terebithia - you think you're watching a nice family film and then it turns totally tragic and there aren't enough tissues in the house. Bambi is *nothing* to what happens here.
Johnny English and Austin Powers both get votes here too. And actually - I'm not proud - we all enjoyed the High School Musical films.
The only films I remember watching as a family when we were kids were Carry On films ... and probably the Pink Panther ones as well.

Hmm, has anyone mentioned Lemony Snicket's A Series Of Unfortunate Events yet? No?
OK then: Lemony Snicket's A Series Of Unfortunate Events.
I quite enjoyed it.

Lemony Snickets is great, but it's another one that requires tissues at the end. It came out when I was working at a cinema and you could tell the parents who'd been to see it.

in the Golden Compass, to be honest, it's only at the end of the film where they went mental and changed the story around. It's a small thing, and if you haven't read it, it makes no difference. But if they were going to make a 2nd film (seems so highly unlikely now that nobody cares) it was as annoying to me as killing Boromir in the first LOTR film then filling the 2nd one with twaddle.
LOTR films are a bit gory - although the 12 and 13 year old Gruesomes love them.
Percy Jackson - I'm reading the books and it's a whole lot nicer now I know that Zeus bears a striking resemblence to Richard Sharpe
Does anyone know if they are making more films?

I've not seen Percy Jackson yet, but I did enjoy the book enough to make it a worthwhile watch.
And I cant believe I forgot Mary Poppins. I'm still slightly obsessed with it once or twice a year

Did someone mention Damian Lewis?

Oh, and I can't think of good films that haven't been mentioned.
