UK Petrol Crisis is a joke
Dinsdale Piranha Posted Sep 19, 2000
Yes!!! That's it! That's what people are angry about. There has been no sign of the promised revolution in public transport provision.
I WOULD go to work by public transport if it was viable (really), just like I did when I worked in London. I even used it when I worked in Croydon and I could have driven. But I won't use it now because my car is far quicker and infinitely more reliable (tempting fate there). I don't have a Mondeo.
New UK Petrol "Crisis"?

Has anybody heard any news about the latest developments? It's "official" that most of the petrol stations in South Wales have closed as of 12noon. The rumour is that the government has three hours to be prepared to listen or the tanker drivers themselves will go on strike??! I think that three hours may be a bit of an exaggeration, either that or it's a scaremongering rumour to induce people to panic buy again, thus ensuring that supplies to full levels are delayed even more.

You've just explained why all the queues for fuel at the filling stations in Gloucestershire are longer than ever - they think there may be another shortage ........I thought they were just practicing for the next Olympics!!

Here is a suggestion that should please as many people as possible.
In exchange for reducing petrol prices by about 10p per litre, an extra penny should go on income tax to fund the Health Service and Education Service. The Governmnet should also impose two new tiers to the current income tax system. Currently you are taxed at 40% for amounts over a certain amount, I'm not sure what it is off hand. They should bring in a 70?% and 90% levels, so the right people are being taxed, namely the ones who have the money. This is the system they have in Europe and it works.
that's it, problem solved. The sooner they do this the better.

Latest is that todays news is all a hoax, started off on the Internet (surprise!), which, if started to induce panic buying, seems to have worked remarkably well!

One small rumor, Panic, Panic Panic!!!
I remember seeing a notice, prominently displayed in a classroom when doing my RAF Basic training...
"Rumors appeal to idiots....IGNORE THEM!!"
I think that is sound advice, any time.

They should find the idiot that started the rumour and have them publicly shot on national TV.
Apologies to anybody I upset with that last comment, these are my opinions and not necessarily everyone elses.

Can I just say that I heard some one on the Radio saying the following:
"I just want to congratulate Robin Cook on his praise for the Serbian people and the peaceful way they deposed Slobodan Milosevic. Funny that he and his cabinet colleagues weren't so keen on peaceful protesting when it took place in this country. And now we are going to have new legislation to curb the right to protest. Makes you wonder who lives in the real democracy."

Bah. Just as things settle down, along comes another war in the Middle East, and the price of crude shoots up again - guess who will be paying for this little increase?

The man selling it obviously needs the money for his 'nuclear' bunker - forget the petrol crisis and massive floods, we're heading for World War III !!
