Yeah, there's a few gems there that could be added to the Intelligent Life forums. A group of kids from our school in Germany were on their exchange trip to the States and the teacher was talking to someone who asked if she had heard of Mercedes and Porsche, they were the best kind of cars in the States. (She didn't say if he had to establish whether people actually had cars in Germany first, but I have heard that someone was once asked if we had fridges here by an American.)
What's the best band to come out of America?
tuna_sandwich Posted Sep 10, 2000

Hmm, did somebody think Elvis was in the Quarrymen? The Quarrymen were what the band was called before they changed it to the Beatles. :/
Anyway, the best band to come out of USA would be Beach Boys. Am I showing my age? I´m 19 But 60 music was great!

Are yousure about Fleetwood Mac?
How about Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention (or just about any incarnation Frank took)?
Deep Purple, Grand Funk Railroad, or(tee hee) Lothar and the Hand People?

When I say Aerosmith I was disapointed. They looked like they were on autopilotfor the whole show and it could have lasted a lot longer as well

One multi purpose reply.
1. Yes, I'm sure about Fleetwood Mac, they may now have American members, but Mick Fleetwood is British.
2. Deep Purple are also British.
3. I saw Aerosmith on their last tour of Britain & they were rather good don't you know.

Which tour was that. I saw them on the (checks T shirt) Nine Lives tour at the SECC (down near the front in the middle).
Wasn't that keen on their support band either, Shed Seven (who're british so don't count for this thread anyway).

Oh, great and wise and all seeing LOONY.
Of course, the defining and final true answer to the question.
Thank you for allowing me to bow and scrape in your illuminating presence.

I have two words and two words only for perhaps the only great american band:
1) Velvet
2) Underground

Come to think of it, if you want to hear a band with passion for their cause then track down the first and third albums by Rage Against the Machine! Granted, their second (Evil Empire) was very passionate too. I just didn't like it as much.
