h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

I have written about 8000 words+ so far plus photos which I am keen to publish in the near future-on suitable sites, which ideally will be read by as many people as possible who are interested in (a) WWII/Naval/Combined operations (b) personal interest/wartime stories (c) local /North East/ family links.
Any suggestions of suitable websites/other publishing contacts gratefully received

Annoyingly, the BBC closed its People's War website in 2006

To be honest, I don't know the best alternative (but others might)

h2g2 does have a few 'personal experiences' entries in its Edited Guide, but they would need to be factually-based, perhaps to include the personal accounts within a more factual description of a particular campaign or event. I can't think of good examples off the top of my head (maybe others reading this can), but the WW II entries are collected at C1061.

If you prefer to keep them as 100% personal experiences, then h2g2 can publish them within its 'Underguide' - a collection of pieces which don't fit within the Writing Guidelines for the Edited Guide. There's a list of 'Personal Narrative' entries here: C1236

Am I the only one who thinks the Beeb screwed up big time by closing the peoples war site and it should be reopened again? I have many items of correspondence from my father and others relating to the Navy in WW2 which really deserve to be recorded somewhere. I'm sure there are others in a similar position who would like to participate.

Also, why should it just be for the 2nd World War or just the UK? There must be people out there with memories of life in other wars around the world who would like to recall and record their own tales in a similar way. I never understood why the BBC closed it down. It should have been expanded instead.

I'd guess it would be too much trouble and expense for the BBC to re-open People's War, but why not create a dedicated repository within h2g2 for personal experiences, similar to or part of the Underguide. Publish them on the Front Page, add links to existing entries in People's War, etc.
