Don't forget that on your century in the UK you can get your telegram from the queen. (but you have to ask).
Retirement ages?
Speaking of German traditions, my German friends celebrate the Bergfest - at 35, or more often 40 now - the idea being you've reached the top of the mountain, all downhill from thereon...
And French traditions - I think 25 is the Saint Catherine - if you're not married by then, there is some sort of ceremony...

The Gruesomes' friends love coming to our birthday parties because we do the candles-on-the-cake thing (which is a British tradition too)

My mom would never let us have candles on the cake, she was worried our hair would catch fire and we´d end up with third degree burns.

Traditionally, statues of Saint Catherine in churches had a hat put on them once a year by unmarried girls at least 25 years old.
Unmarried 25-year-old women are known as 'Catherinettes' (little Catherines). The hat-making/fashion industry started a tradition of making very elaborate hats for Catherinettes. Every year on 25 Nov, there is still some sort 'show' in Paris (2nd district) organised by fashion schools.
A few decades ago when non-marriage was very fashionable, quite a few young woman would makes themselves funny hats (eg paper) for St Catherine's day.
