Paul... Marvin really was obvious. But you must have been focusing on the main characters. Next time you watch it just look at the characters in the queue in the Vogon office. Marvin (or the plastic pal version, I'm not sure if it's smiling or frowning, I have to watch it again) is the most prominent and is shown at least 3 - 4 times including once in the foreground.
To be honest I couldn't tell you what Ford, Arthur and Z are doing at the time because I was so gobsmacked by Marving Mark I.

Count Zero, I saw Marvin the *second* time I saw the movie. Yes, he really was pretty obvious. I hadn't seen the TV miniseries in a long time (10+ years)
GodBen, I *already* wear thick glasses.

" Marvin (or the plastic pal version, I'm not sure if it's smiling or frowning,"
There was only ever one costume, and that's it (the top half of it, anyway). BBC budgets, remember. Then again, I think I do need to nip off and check whether the faces were different and if so, how...

I appreciated Marvin because he managed to cut through the silliness of the others. The last scene, where he aimed the point-of-view gun at the Vogons and took away their will to keep fighting was precious! I hope they'll give him a prominent part in "restaurant at the End of the Universe," where he can demoralize a huge tank in the bridge between the two office towers.

My TV guide claims that Disney are very interesting in doing two sequels to the film based on the next two books.

I distinctly remember the "plastic pal who's fun to be with" smiling while it played beach ball with the family.
It was probably the same costume up to the head and maybe the eyes were adjustable.
(I won't be able to check for a few days since I seemed to have loaned out my DVD of the TV series. The person I thought I loaned it to swears she doesn't have it so it seems to be lost. What's worse is my video about Douglas Adams has disappeared with it and is out of print. ).

It's a funny coincidence how things that have been out of print for years go back into print when there's a new movie.

I'm very upset that the photo of DNA in the rhino suit was with the video.
I ordered a replacement DVD of the series. So of course, I'm sure that whoever actually has them will now suddenly remember they have them.
The good thing is when that happens I'll be informing said borrower that they now owe me for the full price of the DVD.
(I've now got two sets of the Criterion Collection "BRAZIL" because I didn't do that.... Someone borrowed my $30 dvd set... disappeared for over a year... I reordered them at the new price of $45... two weeks later that person showed back up and returned my discs. I offered to sell them to him.. next time I demand.)

I only have about 15 videos. I just don't like to collect them because they take up so much space, and I only tend to watch them once or twice. I'd rather borrow them from a video store or library

Having seen the film, i cant help thinking that much of DNA's philosophy on Life, the Universe and Everything and (no offense intended) been simplified for the non-enlightened American audience.
I disagree infinitely with whoever thinks Marvin's voice was good - it lacked the original monotone that was his trademark. However, i liked the new-style body, though a glimpse of the original was welcome.
Zaphod was not well cast, scripted or acted, being just too stupid.
Why does no one like "So long and thanks for all the fish"??? its not so bad is it???
I liked joke about the scuttling jewelled scintillating crabs of Vogsphere and liked Marvin's parting words - "Not that anyone will listen to me, but its the other end of the universe" - which unfortunately misses the point as its in time, not space (why do they turn around???) and the Big Bang Burger Bar is at the other end.

Well I liked the opening song anyway.
Now here's a question I don't think has been answered. In early reports of the film it was stated that Trillian would be only 1/2 human, thereby reinforcing the fact that Arthur is the last human. This is even stated in the "Making of book" (that I got as a birthday present today )
But this was certainly removed from the final film (or did I miss this?) - anyone know why? And how they even intended to get the story to fit this silly idea?

FFD - I agree about the restaurant being the other way. That annoyed me too - although afterwards it did occur to me that although it's at the time end of the universe, it still has a position in space so technically they could be going in the wrong direction. But I think it's more like the point was missed.

It might have missed the point, but I still laughed.
To me it seemed that Marvin was being typically acerbic in reaction to the gang forgetting where they parked the ship. Marvin always was a bit of a smart****.
(of course it was probably just a typical hollywood oneliner but I'll prefer to interpret my way.)

I thought that that line meant the Improbability Drive was up to some mischief by going backward in time rather than forward.
