Anyone fancy a pint in London on Saturday 30th April?
Whisky Posted Apr 25, 2005
I'll follow the majority - although the earlier film might give us more drinking/socialising time afterwards...

Somewhere central ish perhaps one of the pubs we've been to at a meet? Bell Book and candle, some of the ones in High holborn? I don't know that many pubs in London

(Just to stop anyone forgetting about this...)
Anyone had any ideas about location yet? - I'm not going to be online tommorrow - will be in various meetings or on a train all day - so I'll check in on Friday to find out what's going on...

Well, thinking about it the Bell Book and Candle (whateer it called now), probably won't be any good, as it normally doesn't open late into a Saturday (it opened special for us at the last meet). Somewhere central would be best for me, I'm in the City during the afternoon, and as the Kings Cross station has gone bonkers for my return train to Cambirdge I'll be having to get a train from Liverpool street instead Not sure though as I don't relaly know many pubs in London cept the ones we've been to at meets, and a few I've been in other times that I don't know the name or location of

Ya know... Y'all are almost making me think about the feasibility and logistics of catching a ten hour flight from Houston to London.
Almost...
I guess I better start looking up showtimes for my favourite theatres here... Either the Angelica(35 miles away downtown Houston) or the Loews Commons (45-50 miles away other side of Houston). One of those better be showing it because I can't stand the theatres nearby... full of idiot loud kids who kick the backs of the seats in front of them, talk on their phones, shine laser pointers at the screen and pretty much dare me to get thrown in jail for assault.
Anyway, I've got my ready.
Have a pint for me too.

What time will you be there Whisky? I'll have seen the film by then, but if you will be around for a while before it I'll still come up for a few and a bit of socialising if I can.

If we can figure out where we're meeting I'll free from the early afternoon Mina...
I could give you a mobile number - but you might not want to call it and I'm not sure I'll be able to call out on it...
To call me, you'd be making an international call to a French mobile - are you feeling rich?

:- the amount of time I've spent playing with the WAP version of teh H2G2 guide on my phone, I doubt it'd make much of a differnece on my (what I expect to be) 'fashionably expensive' monthly bill But would it still be classed as an international call once your on UK land? if you want to mail it to me, [email protected] useually does the trick, and I can Txt you back so yo've my number if you like

I've not been to the UK with this particular phone/service provider before, but generally, it goes along the lines of...
I'm connected to a french network...
When I cross the channel my phone picks up the BT network - who then shout back across the channel to my phone company that they've got my phone...
If someone wants to ring me, they ring my French number, which sends them to my French service provider, who look in their little black book to find out where I am, discover I'm in England and send the signal back across the channel to BT who connect the call via a local cell...
So, if we were sitting in the same pub, talking to each other, the signal would be bouncing from your phone to the cell mast, across the channel to France, back across the channel a second time and back to my phone 10 feet away from you... (Ain't technology wonderful!)
Mail's on the way though...

I'm not feeling rich at all, but I'll call you - it just won't be a very long call!!
If it's from the early afternoon, would you mind if I brought J? I haven't got to worry about babysitters then, and if everyone else rushes off to the pub I can just come home. It means you won't be able to stay in the pub all afternoon though?
If you mind, just say no - I'm sure my parents won't mind having him.

Oh Lordy what are you lot like!
RF and I are definitely going to the 8.50 showing in Leicester Square.
So...
Isn't there an All Bar One there?
Or a Scruffy Murphys off one of the side streets (I usually avoid fake Oirish pubs like the plague, but that one's bearable)
*stands back to await all the reasons why those are no good*

Right, you lot.
There's loads of pubs in the general vicinity of Covent Garden & Leicester Square, so I don't think we need settle for anything as crap as AB1 or O'Neill's. I shall find somewhere tomorrow and report back. Real ale will be a priority, Badger if I can find it.
