"the best fish I've ever tasted was barbecued shark in Thailand, freshly caught that day. Delicious.
It sits there on ice, and you go up to a guy with a cleaver, and motion to him how big a chunk you like, and he cuts a huge chunk off(for about £1.40), then go have a beer on the beach watching the moon set while they cook it."
And can I ask exactly how they cook the moon?

Just grate it and mix with some Worcester Sauce and make a Welsh Rarebit.

Make the most of it because unless we control the high tech, greedy, modern fishermen there wont be any left.
Over the years fishermen take, take, take and put nothing back. If a farmer treated his land like fishermen treat the sea he'd be out of business pdq. Sorry about the rant. I'll get my coat.

This is very true. Don't eat bluefin tuna, only yellowfin. And never, under any circumstances, eat orange roughy.

I quite agree too, WA. I've completely stopped eating cod and bluefin tuna (more's the pity - they're both my favourites).

different answers depending on different circumstances:
if you get them REALLY fresh, anchovies either grilled or deep fried are the best eating there is. By fresh i mean max 3-4 hours out of the water. if possible, bread them and fry them while they're still wriggling (it doesn't hurt them...)
on a nice russian smoked fish platter, the sturgeon!
when it comes to sushi, uni (sea urchin gonads)...
all these can be hard to come by, so the standby answer : barbecued tuna steak.

well said about the bluefin; my favorite tuna is a small variety we used to catch off monterey called bonito. doesn't freeze well though.

So this is about eating fish then? Otherwise I would say puffer fish. They are strange looking, fascinating , deadly and you can make zombie poison from them.

New one for my favorites list - pickled anchovie like what you get in tapas bars. Mmmmmmmm
Old one that I forgot - smoked Mackeral.
Never really be into Cod - an old hate brought to light on Saturday when I had the fish and chips in a pub. Much prefer Haddock when deep fried.

Deep Sea fishermen prefer Haddock as they know Cod suffers has worms. You only see Haddock in Aberdeen chippers.

Most Scottish chippies do Haddock rather than Cod. At least most of the ones I've ever been to.
