Or I could have said unfounded rather than untrue.
Dont you just hate it when the right word comes to mind ten minutes too late.

>>Nonononono... Stonehenge was built by aliens (who probably came to perv over the teenage girls in black eyeliner).
Here's the 'evidence': If you do the appropiate calculations on Stonehenge you get pi. The ancient Brions had no knowledge of the number pi, therefore Stonehenge was built by aliens (as reported by the Heirophant in Fortean Times).<<
Pah, the teenage girls had probably just learned about it in GCPSE (General Certificate of Pagan Secondary Education) maths. It was probably a CDT project in fact. "Build a big pagan thing, then discuss the commercial applications of your design". Obvious if you ask me.

You mean things like: "On the 21st December every year it will tell us that it's defintely Winter."
Or.
"In thousands of years time people will still come to look at it."

I quite like the idea that our ancestors built all these big stone monuments just to baffle the crap out of us

As all good archaeologists say when they don't really know: "I think it's ritual."

I quite like the idea of our descendants looking at some of the stuff we build and going "WTF????"

It'll never happen. Hardly anything's built to last nowadays, and the stuff that is ends up being destroyed or recycled to protect the environment.
But I must admit that I like the idea of an archaeologist in the year 6,000 finding half a Barbie and telling his colleages that "it's probably ritual."

Hmm, I'd like to hear their take on the Millenium spike, say - the enormous steel pole in the middle of Dublin.
"Clearly built as some sort of fertility symbol..."

I'd hate to see what they'd make of the Angel of the North... they'll probably start looking for an race of winged humanoids who were worshipped by the inhabitants of the area.

Not to mention the CN Tower in Toronto! Still the highest free-standing structure ever built. Like . . . why?

Oddly enough "The Angel of the North" was what came into my mind too.

Right... so far, future man will think the people of our time were penis-obsessed worshipers of wingéd giants.

Yes, az, people of OUR time. As in the present day.

The Washington Monument?
Reminds me of the film Shrek - "It makes you wonder if he's compensating for something"...

azahar Posted Jan 17, 2005
Well, what I was getting at was that this isn't exactly something of *our* time, being obsessed with large penis shaped thingys.
