Don't worry 2legs, once they sink under the water in the bowl, they don't give off *that* much steam any more. smiley - winkeye

I wasn't thinking of the steam coming out of the PC, Swl - still, in the interests of good taste perhaps it's a good thing I was misconstrued. smiley - biggrin

>>Of course, they're filled with air/gas!<<

Incandescent lights have a filament in a near-vacuum, otherwise they'd burn out immediately.

However fluorescent lights do have an inert gas included that carries the current with a fluorescing agent attached to the glass to provide the light. As do low-energy bulbs...

No, the incandescent ones are also filled with inert gas - the point is to keep the oxygen out! If it were a vacuum, it would burn out more quickly because the tungsten wire would evaportate faster, on account of the vacuum sucking the molecules off.

I'd have expected incandescent bulbs to float, they do.

But I can now confirm low energy bulbs do not float. smiley - scientist

And I've just found some that are marked-up to last 10 years.

Ah but! They remain buoyant until the air escapes from the starter portion. Fluresent tubes might float. (I think they will, but I've not observed it smiley - bigeyes )

minichessemouse - Ahoy there me barnacle!

broke a flourescent tube once by hitting it weith a ball, gave me a real fright.

both incandescent and energy asving bulbs have their problems. we have a few energy saving bulbs here, they are more blue and take a while to warm up.
