This is a good start - http://www.wea.org.uk/
I did some work with them back in the 80s.

Try your local techgnical college or uni too. They might have courses in adult literacy and teaching it.

NPY Posted Apr 28, 2008
Well try colleges and see if you can train up anyway. Or work if you can. Or they might know where you can go.

Yeah, it does look good. But doesn't help the bank balance. May be useful if you have to do a course to get where you want - study and volunteer somewhere.

I would highly recomend doing a course first in how to teach. Spotting that someone is making mistakes is the easy part, but providing the corrective practice is the difficult part.
Teaching beginers is something that needs to be done properly as they may learn in a similar way for rest of life so basics need to be sound.
.
However the most important part of teaching is teaching those left behind and strugling. Be it adults or youngsters I feel that doing a course to learn how to teach that group is essential as if that group fails to catch up it can be life effecting!

Oh yeah. Especially it's adults who are embarrassed about the fact that they're struggling in the first place.

I did some volunteer adult literacy tutoring for a while and found it incredibly rewarding and stimulating.
I can highly recommend the experience
