I think the politicians and media really have to get their acts together on this one.

For decades the press have got more out of snipping and showing off their own power to destroy a politician or even a whole goverment and are constantly on the look out for the next big scandal. Fine if its an important scandal but a constant drip of frivilous stories just swithches people off.

Politicians for thier part show off to the press (and they think voters) by lambasting each other for the smalles of mistakes. These running petty squabbles contrasted by fawning eulogies for dead rivals who the week before they would not have pissed on if they were on fire just annoy voters and make them lose faith and interest in the whole process.

I'm surprised Parliament TV isn't more popular to be honest. It has many similarities to Big Brother after all. Most of the time nothing much in particular happens, and the rest of the time they're all shouting at each other and acting like children. I remember after the 2nd reading of the tuition fees bill, they were actually throwing paper at each other smiley - groan.

Maybe we should get rid of the mace and all that and replace them with a hot tub?

No! No! More maces - a mace for each of them and the last one left standing at the end of the debate wins smiley - smiley You would have to be really commited to something before proposing anything then smiley - smiley Until later....

Well, I'm 27 and I'm voting in the June 10th European Parliamentary elections, if I have the time, I've also voted two other times: once when I was 20 on the issue of the Scottish Parliament being restored and once a couple of years later in the Scottish Parliamentary elections.

The only time I wouldn't vote is if I had no opinion on a subject or didn't favour any particular party. I suspect those "young people" who don't vote do so because they don't care, in which case they deserve all they get.

Yes but we get what they get.
So why should those who DO care (you and me) suffer for others' indifference. Maybe they don't get it but if they don't get with it soon, we're all gonna get it in the neck.

Because if half the people don't vote, any group representing 25% of the population who get all their people to cast a ballot will have a legal majority and complete control. Egads, 13% believe Elvis is alive, 9% claim to have seen aliens and 40% of Americans are fundamentalist Christians. I wouldn't wanna get what some of them think I deserve.

I'm not actually sure people who believe Elvis is alive and/or claim to have seen aliens are necessarily worse than some of the people we have in power at the moment...

Naming no names, of course, because we can't talk politics at present, but I totally agree!

I've had a whole load of leaflets from parties this week, but no Labour yet... Even the English Democrats, a party I'd never heard of, have posted a leaflet.

David - will be voting unless he's unconscious all day or (hopefully not) dead

Why don't young people vote?

How about when their assigned polling station is stupidly located. Yes, its probably the nearest in a straight line. In actuality its a 40 minute uphill walk.

I do care!! That's 'why' I don't vote. It doesn't matter who gets in, the package deal is generally the same...a load of smiley - bleep!

Well, all it takes to stand at a General Election is £500 for a deposit, ten electors to put down their names on your behalf, and a keen sense of masochism. Alternatively you could join the future empiresmiley - evilgrin.
