I'll remember that the next time I'm near a river, thanks!
A brief foray into retail in my youth included a lecture about making change. For some strange reason I remember to this day that there are 293 ways to make change for a dollar. I assume that the pound would be similar.

Similar, but not the same... there is no 20¢ to correspond with the 20p. There isn't a 25p coin either to correspond with the quarter dollar coin (is there?).
Here's a good bar bet... what is the most amount in US coins one can have and still not make change for a dollar bill.
For those that are unfamiliar with US coins:
$1=2 half dollars(50¢)=4 quarters(25¢)=10 dimes(10¢)=20 nickels(5¢)=100 pennies(1¢)
One hint before you scroll down for the answer, it is MORE than $1.

From Spinks' list:
"Oslo, Norway is the world's most expensive city. A gallon on gas costs almost $5, and it costs $1.32 to use the public restrooms."
$5 a gallon. We'd love our petrol to be $5 a gallon. It's about £3.80 a gallon here - around $6.60
Isn't it expensive to spend a penny though?
