Agreed.
But I've found that being "eclectic" (which I suppose I am) meansyou're much more likely to hate as many genres of music as you like...

This would be a good opportunity for me to do my "21secondstogo" So Solid Crew "kick".
Or maybe not.

Futher thoughts on eclectism.
I find sweaty rock stars rolling around on stage, plus loud and elaborate electric guitars the highest form of entertainment.
I think that disqualifies me from any kind of good reputation whatsoever.
It does make me cool though. So I can live with it.

SAT, sorry but, no running with the herd does not make someone cool.
Having the balls to stand up and be counted no matter what flak yor're going to take is the true meaning of the word in the sense you are trying to use it.
As for shakespeare the reason he got bought in was to illustrate that even those who use previously published work as a basis for what they do can create original works. Whether they caniballise the plot structure or other elements it does not make them simply talentless copyists. Having said that there are some talentless copyists making music and even some of the better samplers are tempted to use huge chunks of other peoples records where the sample is damn good or they are just being lazy.
As for Shakespears preoccupation with royalty I agree but lts put things in context you have to remeber that abck then that was the major preoccupation of the day. Try finding a tabloid today (which are the best selling and most competitive papers) a celebrity on the front.
The name escapes me now of the guy who wrote Jude the Obscure (a book which despite its literary merits I found boring and would hve given up on had it not been part of the syllabus) it was seen as the first novel to feature an ordinary person.
Up until the last forty years or so many pop and music lyricists struggled with the same problem as shakespeare in that they felt that the market might not allow them to focus on wider issues hence in the 50's and early 60's most of the songs were mostly, pretty one dimensional love songs. Any references to sex had to be heavily veiled and most other subjects went almost totally ignored.
This is one other reason why I think pop (in the broadest sense of the word) has improved. Many peole think that using explicit language has cheapened music and using such language show a lack of talent. I however think that "Darling Nikki" by Prince, the song which caused the uproar that led to the introduction of "Parental Guidance" stickers, is a great record. I dont think "lady Chatterly's Lover" is a great book but its impotance is that it dealt with taboo subjects and broke the establishments control on what we could read about.
In short artists are now freer to express themselves and deal with the subjects that we live with everday in a frank and unabbashed way. If that is not an improvement the Im the glitter in the great Roy Wood's beard.

At the nerdy depths we have now plumbed, it would take more balls to stand up and say "I like S Club 7", than pretty much any other sort of music I can think of.
I still maintain that 'Don't Stop Moving' is a damn fine song.

Of course... it was Lord Chatterly's importance that led to Lady Chatterly getting sweaty with the game(for anything)keeper...ny mistake.
Its often embarassing when dealing with sex and you happen to put your finger in the wrong place, unless you like that sort of thing.

In the context, is it important?
Or were you just trying to work out if it was ok to fancy one of them...

If I was feeling particularly playful I'd ask why you had to know what gender they were before making that assessment...

No. Any good?
Mind you of course, all pales into insignificance next to the news announced in the Grauniad on Saturday...
The masters are back. After ten years of waiting, and assuming it would never happen, Kraftwerk have a new album ready for August release.
Of course, it'll be cr*p, and it's already late , as it was supposed to coincide with teh Tour De France (only 100 years to plan for that one lads - well missed...), but hey, it's the 'Werk.

It's not brilliant, but there's nothing better out there. Including the Coral's new effort, which is only so-so.
Sorry, still can't get excited about Kraftwerk.
