I say go to Dublin. There are some really good pubs (try the James Joyce pub crawl smiley - winkeye), some lovely museums and things, like the Book of Kells at Trinity College (I think it's Trinity. There are only two, anyway), as well as theatres and restaurants and soforth. As for walking, the trains are ridiculously reliable, and you can go out from Dublin for the day to some of the most beautiful countryside (and I *hate* countryside). I went after my A-levels with a couple of friends on a shoestring budget and it was great. With a bit more money, it might have been fantastic. smiley - biggrin

Ah, I've got a problem then. There may be time to get one, but I've a feeling that in order to do that you need to send in your Birth certificate and mine was shredded by the HR staff here in work. smiley - grr

I must get a replacement sorted!!

If you can take your application forms to your local passport office, it'll get done a lot quicker. In the London office they do it same day if you're down there early enough, but I don't know if they're that speedy in the regional offices.

My birth certificate went AWOL too, but you just have to order a replacement from the registry office. As for getting a passport - mine arrived within two weeks. smiley - smiley

Well, we've certainly still got time, then. I think we could shortlist Dublin as well.

How affordable are the flights/ferry to Dublin?

Boscastle in north cornwall - http://www.cornishlight.co.uk/boscastle.htm gorgeous and just up the coast from tintagel but nowhere near as tacky.

If you're feeling a little flush Pennyhill Park hotel (http://www.grandheritage.com/Hotels/European/England/Pennyhill/pennyhillindex.html) in surrey is the most wonderful place to spend a night (my cousin - the rich ones - got married there and it's just mind blowingly nice) - they've got a concert in the grounds on the 31st, £25 pp or £50 including lunch in the posh restaurant

Or you could do what me and hubby are planning on (to celebrate my bday on the 31st we usually go to the great dorset steam fair) this yr we're going to notting hill again, it's the bank holiday before and a great weekend.

Book early and you is sorted, geezah. Ryanair is doing Dublin for £12 at the mo', but that's from Stanstead, which may be a bit far for you two, being out in the sticks n'all smiley - tongueout

Rather the sticks than Milton Keynes any day, thank you.smiley - tongueout

I'm very good at planning stuff in advance, but Odo rather less so. So we might still end up taking pot luck.

Come to Milton Keynes! smiley - biggrin Plenty of yuppy chain pubs, an indoor ski-slope with real life snow! Lazy canals and rivers, two types of cow - real and concrete.. A flippin' great big hill to walk up into the woods, and a lovely romantic view of all the pretty lights of the city smiley - oksmiley - space Not one of the top romantic destinations, granted, but we just need to advertise more smiley - biggrin

Flying to Dublin only takes about half an hour - just enough time for them to bring you a glass of orange squash before everyone has to get strapped in for the landing smiley - silly
