Whisky, as Ben mentioned above, the list of who's online gets triggered when anyone visits someone's PS. It's a bug that got introduced many months ago. It was freaking people out to see U42 and nighthoover show up as online quite often.

Interesting question, and one I don't know the answer to. The BBC were hot about playing according to the rules, but I don't know what "the rules" were. Especially as what they agreed to do changed over the 8 weeks or so, whenever they found out new rules they had to play to.

I do now, however, have a terrible impulse to lurk the Personal Spaces of the dead researchers on the 31st so they can be online again. Yet more proof, if proof were needed, that I am a Bad Woman.

Well apparently we need a new Halloween tradition smiley - whistle

I'm not sure now is the time to resurrect controversial entries. Can't we leave it a few weeks until we're settled in?

I don't see a problem with waiting a bit, once things settle down, but these entries really weren't all that controversial to those on the site, just to the twitchy nervous ones who used to own the place.

Well, they are on my radar, if nobody else's and I won't forget about them. But it was 7 years ago, we can wait a few more weeks. smiley - smiley

Blimey.

You know it was the hooha of the Porn debate that first attracted me to hootoo. I had a curt post from Natalie at one point mentioning how i'd only been on site for a couple of weeks in the first few dots of this thread!

Of course having people say "let's wait a bit" is making me want to go and submit some of my favourite "borderline" entires into Peer Review.

Like having a big red button with a sign saying "Do not push"!!!!

smiley - laugh The first thing I opened in PR the other day made me choke on my breakfast. (Revenge shall be mine, wait for the Halloween issue of smiley - thepost...)

I'd like to take this opportunity to point something out, though:

In spite of what some people might want you to believe, it is not always necessary to be yelling 'come see the violence inherent in the system' to be interesting, informative, and worthy of a read. smiley - winkeye

The real challenge is taking something nobody else would have found so interesting, and explaining why we absolutely need to know about this. If an entry is dull, it isn't because the subject is dull. It's because the treatment is uninspiring.

I'd like to see a push in PR to take the 'dullest' topics imaginable and make them fascinating to the casual reader. From bootlaces to theoretical physics, from how to iron a doily to how to change a tire.

Can't wait for your entry on the "dull" subject of teaching grandmothers to suck eggs, Dmitri! smiley - winkeye

Would be if I did it

1. Call man from the AA
2. Wonder why man from AA says I'm not a member
3. Realise I don't own a car
4. Leave the tyre business to the person whose car it is, and wander off to catch a bus

I'd like to see this one back A10180081.... I think it was the sexual lexicon, the collaborative works of words with possible sexual double meanings...or something like that

There were researchers that had concerns about Hoo's homemade p*rn entry.

At this point I'm not so concerned about what the bbc did in the past (although I still find it interesting), but I am concerned that if we start talking right now about things that need consideration, we may not do the site or community a favour. The volunteers teams are still finding their feet, there still work to be done, and I'd like to see some positive energy go into supporting them before we get stuck into any hooha smiley - winkeye

Fair enough Kea.

Perhaps though we do have a conduit for being able to sample some community "flavour" on such things before anything went into the edited guide.

Might be annoying for writers if a previously accepted entry had to navigate PR again but I reckon it would be good for the entry, good for the site.

And importantly good for PR, might get some researchers (like myself) who have been absent for too long to spend some time there is a fave hobbyhorse deleted entry was doing the rounds?
