I have no idea why it is called Canadian Bacon, any more than I know why strips of fried potatoes are called French Fries.
And as far as Candadians worrying about people in the U.S. disliking them. Don't. While I know plenty of people who crack jokes at Canada's expence (but really, no more than those that crack jokes at the Deep South's expence). There is no animosity behind hit.

I am glad clzoomer feels better about how the neighbors see Canadians.
The the canadian bacon is a slab of ham. As a kid, I thought that meant Canada is into bigger and better and meatier things than the US. US view of Canadian Bacon :Why have a skinny shriveled up piece of American bacon when you can a big piece of HAM for breakfast!

Here's an interesting link (I find it most interesting for what the U.S. Consul General tells Canadians):

Ah, he's an appointed hack and not worthy of consideration. The government makes the policy and should be listened to.
btw, Anhaga- it would be better to make a bid from Tonga or New Zealand. They didn't support either but the poor b@stard wouldn't know that, would he? lol

but then, I thought, if we started making bids we'd drive up his price. better to let him be stuck with selling it below cost.

What if a UK or US resident made a bid contingent on his changing his policy?
Oh, the tangled webs we weave....

I was particularly disturbed by the ignorance of his remarks that America would have been there for us if we ever needed them. Do they not teach History in America?
Anyone here old enough to remember WW1 will be dead by now, but if you youngsters care to search you'll find the US on record as being quite tardy to that party.
Similarly in 1939 they weren't offering any of their 'support' to those of us then 'willing' to wipe out an evil dictator named Hitler. They didn't save the world until after Tojo did his Tora Tora Tora number on Pearl.
Revisionally yours,

Yikes! You should be careful. History is revisionist by nature. Just as anything can be proven by statistics, history can be interpreted by geography, time, and social structure. Your absolute may be someone else's lie. (And vice versa)
Now come out fighting clean. Marquis of Queensbury, if you please.

"or New Zealand" No thanks, I buy new
I emailed that page to someone from germany (his desk is next to mine). He started with his low opinion of the printer and when he scrolled down came laughter at the idiotic statement.
waiting for to anhaga's email

So is there a list of countries that did not support the *Liberation* but could have? Or is it just the big four (Russia, Canada, France, and Germany).
Come to think of it, when in the history of the world have those four countries *aligned* We've got about as much in common as NAFTA!

"Anyone here old enough to remember WW1 will be dead by now, but if you youngsters care to search you'll find the US on record as being quite tardy to that party." - Why should the US have gone storming into a European conflict? Put it in the right context... this was pre-League of Nations, pre-UN, pre-Cold War, pre-global policeman America. It was still very much a minor player on the world stage. It took WWI and WWII to change that.
"Similarly in 1939 they weren't offering any of their 'support' to those of us then 'willing' to wipe out an evil dictator named Hitler. They didn't save the world until after Tojo did his Tora Tora Tora number on Pearl." - Check the context again. Check also into the fact that FDR could not sell participation in another horrendous European war to the people, but the US did readily violate neutrality with the Lend-Lease program. And there are some interesting arguments to suggest that Pearl Harbor was *allowed* to be bombed... there's no way you get the population to enlist in mass numbers, put women in the manufacturing plants, and save everything from pennies to bacon grease without such a motivator.
BtM, who will allow only so much revisionism.

When the sanctions against Iraq were first enforced in 1991. But the four countries are happy to play the shell game with Saddam for another 12 years.

As for the original topic of this thread, all you need to know about American sentiments in general towards Canadians was on display in Washington DC last night. The figure skating World Championships were taking place. The announcers made a big deal about the fact that no North American pairs had ever won the ice dance gold at Worlds. The audience cheered very loudly for the Canadian pair, and again when it became apparent that they'd won gold. The moral was, if an American pair couldn't win, then a Canadian pair was the next best thing.
The "Blame Canada" song and theme throughout the South Park movie is so hilarious exactly because the Canadians have always been an ideal neighbor.
