This is a funny conversation - I've never before heard that somebody gives a name to his/her car but sweet.
The common name for FIAT is: Fehler In Allen Teilen ( approximately translated as:faults in all things ( components) ) -it even works in English

I think the better known Northern equivalent is 'F*ck It! Alternator Trouble.'
Seriously mate, they're a bugger to service.

I forgot to mention my Fiat Panda (how could I?) which was the perfect student car - you could get surprising amounts of stuff in it, it ran on a sewing machine engine so used very little petrol, was made of plastic, and was so deeply uncool that nobody would even think of nicking it. Lasted me a couple of years, that old thing - although the last year was a bit annoying because the lid kept opening as I was going along, which was irritating when it was raining...

Had a white Scenic called Snowy. We lived near Belgium at the time, and I liked the allusion to Tintin's dog.
Now have a black Scenic called the Gothmobile. My son named it.
Dai's bike is Brunhilde, since she's a big bosomy German

I'd heard oif FIAT as 'Fix It Again, Tony'
To be fair I have a couple of friends wiuth Puntos and they seem quit ehappy with them. I thin its the Stilos that have the bad rep at the moment.

Sod the make. There are three makes of car that I would never recommend to anyone; namely Fiat, Citroen and Hyundai.

Before you sod the car, make sure that the exhaust pipe has cooled down first.
You could get a nasty burn.

I would have, until recently, but they seem to be more reliable and cheaper to service these days.
I'd never own one myself, mind.

Our cars have been called Hector (yellow Polo, died a hero's death going the wrong way on a dual carriageway) (*after* we'd sold it), Jessica and Hilary (both red Novas), Rustin' Justin (Cavalier, ended up held together with string) ... and then we stopped naming them, because well, for similar reasons to those outlined by SoRB above.
But we do refer to them, so they need to be called something. Our current car (Skoda Felicia) is called "the motor" (Sweeney accent essential) in conversation; the car we've just traded in (Chrysler Neon fuel-guzzler - the one which was going to cost £850 to fix) was nicknamed The Limo because of its size, and the car we're getting next week, which is big and black, is already being called the Batmobile, to stop OSH complaining that it's not silver or blue.
A silver Fiat Punto ... has to begin with P, really. Purdey, Peregrine, Polly, the Professor, Patsy, Percival ... Patience might be appropriate ...

Interesting that Ðeakie mentions a Toyota Starlet, incidentally. I had a Starlet once. It was called Ringo.
Ringo Starlet. Do you see? Do you see?

I do currently. And they still cost too much for parts.

Got a Punto just now and to be honest, no problems so far. It hasn't got a name cos we only got it last week and we're getting a Toyota Prius in a couple of weeks.
Used to have a VW Camper called Ruby, because she was ruby-coloured. Great to drive and would putt-putt around the world given the chance. Also loved the way that other camper van drivers would wave to you on the road
