Yeah, I'm not sure what they'll make of it either. Once all the posts are returned, this whole thing'll look like a random flow of non-sequiturs...
Well, more than normal.

Who else thinks that should be a pair of that are walking in the other direction - *away* from the conversation? You know it makes sense.

I should come clean, Whisky - I'm not being psychic in my dismissal of jumpy moderators: I just read this:
Mina> "Unfortunately things were posted in such bulk last night that we had to ask the Moderators to refer all of a certain type of postings over to us so that they could get on with the job of dealing with serious complaints and moderating the other DNA sites."
Mina> "We will be going through these during normal working hours, but we can't promise when they will be dealt with as we are going to be very busy dealing with Researchers' concerns about the Iraq policy"
It's not clear what "a certain type of posting" might mean. But it is clear that the moderators are just following orders. I've heard that that is no defence against charges of war crimes (in relation to some other, past, conflict), but I'm not sure that's relevant here.
So it turns out that it is systematic, after all.
Incidentally, over on Wikipedia we don't seem to have a problem with discussing Iraq. We have, interestingly, currently got a case of a potentially offensive username, but I have every confidence that the community will sort that out.

I'm with you on the ...
"It's not clear what "a certain type of posting" might mean."
It means postings by me which are long, tedious to read, and IF YOU TRUST ME, don't contain the recipe for sarin or anything similar. Since I'm on premod, however, by definition, I'm not to be trusted - so everything I post, no matter how banal, boring or longwinded, needs to be checked just in case I decide to put my considerable knowledge of the chemistry of naughty things in public.
And of course, since the moderators and the h2g2 staff are so very underemployed and short of things to do, I'm helping them by posting as MUCH stuff as I can for them to read and check.
Aren't I sweet? Call it a public service.

Hi Ste
"Are we next?"
It remains to be seen.
One thing is sure, however, I shall not abandon Hoo, nor shall I retreat from Justin.
You may remember several months ago when Justin was at his most vituperative on the God thread, many said we should just ignore him. I said then I would be with him until he either recanted his approach (I have no wish to try and change his beliefs) or he got tired of my constant presence.
I shall continue to challenge his hatred and lies with truth and kindness, and allow all other hootoo's to judge the pair of us on that basis. What I shall not allow is for his hatred to go unchecked for that way lies Salem and a gate marked 'Arbeit Macht Frei'.
Blessings,
Matholwch /|\.

"nor shall I retreat from Justin"
Nice thought, Math, but you fail to consider the possibility that Justin will again abuse the complaints system and with the craven and unreasonable cooperation of the management of the site, FORCE you to retreat.
Consider that.

Hi Hoo .
Nice to see you emerge from under the censor's blanket .
For Justin to have any chance to use the complaints system against me he would have to find a reasonable cause. With you he is able to turn your honesty and passion against you, with me, well let's say I'm more of a tortoise than a hare.
I was once given some advice in a creative writing class where my work kept being returned as 'too colourful'. Imagine, they said, that you have to read it out loud to a Mother Superior who has a wooden ruler within easy reach. The fear of the penguin is a great editing tool when one has to speak more softly but with the same intent.
Blessings,
Matholwch /|\.
PS I was thinking of taking a lesson from the film Spartacus and changing my screenname to 'Math the Hoovooloo'. If we can get all hootoo's of good spirit to do this it might make finding you all the harder (then we'd all get crucified, rats should've thought of that).

I'm still under the blanket Math, so the deluge of guff intended to entertain the Moderators while they should be checking for war related stuff continues apace.
Never been taught by nuns, so I feel I've missed out! (shame there's not a smiley, really).
Don't ally yourself with me, mate. I appreciate the thought, but I
(a) am big enough and ugly enough to look after myself and
(b) don't want anyone else tarred with the same brush as me and don't credit the managment with the wit to tell the difference.

Images of none of them being able to say it loudly enough, nastily enough or often enough for it to be convincing...
