I didn't think it was 'wrong' to say wally, just haven't heard it for ages so thought it must be un
In my family a wally is a large gherkin that you get from a fish and chip shop

I'm sure there was a campaign or something about the word wally since it was insulting to people who are named wally (short for ? )

Wally is a good word. I would be inclined to (and do) use the word 't**t' in similar situations but sometimes people are offended even by this.
In fact, I got modded for using 't**t' in a post!
So wally is an innocuous alternative.

Mark Lamarr. Sorry Mark, your autocue is funny but you just aren't. You're alright on radio though.
Anyone from South Today.....

hmmm. Lots of people consider t**t to be quite a rude word, look forward to getting modded again I would certainly say it was a lot stronger and more offesive than 'wally' (which for me means gherkin).
My mum always gets it confused with 'twit'. This causes to get funny looks when, at the checkout or somewhere, she says something like "I'm such a t**t"

Same with my Mum! She oft refers to my Dad as a bit of a t**t and this is from a person who doesn't like saying 'bum'...

I think it's a bit rude to use the word 't**t' to someone directly. But I think it's funny to refer to some geezer off the telly as a 't**t'.
What happened to 'prat' - did that go the way of 'wally'?

BTW do you know what a t**t is?The number of students who blithely inform me it's a pregnant fish when I challenge them obviously don't.Apart from the fact that fish can't get pregnant they have no idea just how rude the word is.
Incog.

But people don't use it with the meaning you are referring to. The number of people who don't know that meaning is obviously testament to this.
What about people who say 'tush', meaning something like 'stuff and nonsense' rather than 'bum'? I'm sure they don't intend to be that rude.
