Considering what I have to listen to when watching the news I might envy you.

Um, KB, just read your post there again. Has something traumatic happened since the middle of last week?

Not having my own fridge. But I don't like going across the hall to the kitchen! **stamps foot* How's everyone? We're shivering in -12 here. The UK needs to experience -21 then it'll really know what cold is!

Well the UK had around -20 about 10 years ago... I went for a long walk in it and it felt.... nothing special . But then again there was no wind.

i've been out in about -30°C and I was on exercise with the Army in temperatures of -13°C and to be honest my feeling is that once you get to about -10°C it's just flipping cold and that's about it.

I agree. I don't think most people would notice much difference between -10 and -20 unless the temperature suddenly dropped over a short time. Must googleScholar this actually and see if our temperature perceptions do have cut-off points.

Sho, if British exercises were like what I heard about ours - waiting for something scheduled for yesterday wasn´t exacty warming.

I would imagine there are certain thresholds where changes in temperature become essentially meaningless as far as your ability to feel them goes. I know that in the 18-25c area even half a degree is quite noticable but it makes sense that beyond certain points the temperature receptors are just basically going COLD or HOT without much subtlety.

Beyond -15 we stopped feeling it. And our hands, feet and faces too. After a week or so you get used to it.

quotes Posted Feb 10, 2012
My experience of a Scandinavian winter was that I very much felt varying levels of coldness. It didn't ever get above -5c, which felt comparatively temperate. At temperatures lower than that, I would notice various physical phenomenon on exposed skin, like the air instantly freezing in my nostrils when I breathed in, making me feel like I had a blocked nose. Even my eyes started to feel peculiarly frosted. Maybe I'm more sensitive than you lot?

The paradox about this thread is that in many ways, it's very good-natured. You don't see anyone being condescending to anyone else, no sneering, nor in-fighting.

That's not in the spirit of things Pit.
If you'd like to hang on while I review, we might be able to rectify that.

There's no need for any sneering or in-fighting here. Sharing a petty hate has a catharsis all of its own and thus is all rage cleansed from the psyche. Temporarily, anyway.
