Just to let you all know, I gave out the xmas card with the French translation in it yesterday, and the barmaid in question was so pleased she ran around the bar and gave me and my mates all a big french kiss 
(one of them silly both cheek kisses they do in France, not the other type of French kiss! 
)

But I'll disagree with one thing... the french habit of kissing is definitely not silly... where else is it perfectly acceptable to be a dirty old man and slobber all over every single beautiful young woman you are introduced to - without getting slapped
