I'll add some of these sagas to me 'shortlist', a complete misnomer in my case.

Forgive my ignorance, I thought that a saga either referred to:

a) a commonly used term for a long running story (not literally the length of the story - i.e. how many words/pages, more the time period the tale is set over) or
b) a company that caters for the over 50's?

Mrs the wife, until my friend questioned this, I believed the same as you (my friend said a saga was 2 films long... yes, i realise how stupid that sounds). I just wanted clarification that a saga was however long it lasted (ie, there isn't a time limit).

I think the essential feature of a saga is that the story spans more than one generation.

Does Dallas and Dynasty count as sagas?

btw, the word "saga" still just means "story" in Icelandic...

I have been reading a book by Anne McCafrey for a while. I've been looking at the frontpage a lot, but it was only a few days ago I realized what it says. Below the title is the text "The first volume in the epic saga of the Talents of Earth"

Everyone else reads the title first. Not Xan, no. He waits until he's halfway through the book.
