I hate to contradict other people but my dictionary has a little note saying that 'Aborigine' and 'Aboriginal' are both correct to refer to indiginous Australians. It capitalises them for this useage only.

Mind you, it's still the Penguin dictionary ...

OED gives:

aboriginal: 1 noun an aboriginal inhabitant. - the programmer in me says that that is a circular reference and that the use of 'goto's is forbidden smiley - smiley

Back to the point... aboriginal is a noun as well as an adjective. From L. ab origine 'from the beginning'
