Does anybody else want to comment on the new series of Mastermind on Discovery with Clive Anderson.
I watched it for the first time last night and I .
Please will someone tell Mr Anderson that "erm" and "ah" before, after and sometimes during every question means that the contestants get a miniscule amount of questions and consequently look like dumbnuts.
Remember in the good ol' days of BBC Mastermind when people were scoring 16 in the first round??? Well that was the OVERALL score for the winner!!!
It would be interesting to hear who you think should present Mastermind should Clive Anderson suffer a mysterious accident rendering him incapable of speech
Bring in Nicholas Parsons I say!!!!

Simon Scharma or Beatrix Campbell - clear swift speakers, with the intellectual gravitas to pull it off the way Magnus did...

If only Oliver Reed was still with us, I would have loved to see him presenting mastermind:
OLLIE:"Who succeeded his father, Oliver Cromwell, to become a short-lived Lord Protector of England?"
CONTESTANT:"David Cromwell"
OLLIE:"Incorrect, it was Richard Cromwell, you miserable little s**t!" *drinks from tankard* "What are you waiting for? Another question?! Pah" *starts fight with soundman*

any comments on John Humpries?
I think he's doing a great great, a touch of sarcasm here and there but a welcome return (To the show and this thread)

John H is doing OK - a vast improvement on Mr "erm-ah" Clive Anderson. However - the standard of the general knowledge questions seems to have slipped somewhat. Either I'm getting alot brainier or the questions are getting alot easier.
Some of the specialist subjects are a bit too!
The only thing I will say about Mr Humphries is that the "padding out" chat is a bit forced. Almost as if it is scripted.
for reviving this thread CHawke!

The 'Chat' bit is like those awful bits of 'University Challenge - The Professionals' where the teams show 'what they get up to at work' which is a cringeworthy combination of stilted soundbites and embarrassingly inappropriate camerawork. Why? They didn't feel it necessary with the students (thankfully).

Yeah, you try asking a student what he does for a living.
