Implications of naturism, prudery, and the dangers of applying Western values to the Islamic world: A minor thesis

"Should it be illegal for someone to be naked on the London Underground during rush hour?"
Can't think of anywhere better that needs to provide for nakedness. What gets me is that when I'm in a real sweat- whether on the underground or in the street- or even in my own back garden for that matter- someone thinks they have the right to insist that I wear clothing and even that the principle should be enshrined in law. If I don't care about people laughing at my daggly bits why should anyone else? It's strange that religions should be so hung up on this point when the Book of Genesis which both Jews, Christians and Muslims accept says of Adam and Eve, "They were naked but not ashamed."

Lots of complicated issues here:
- most nudists are harmless, at the end of the day we have the bits we have if some folks don't look good nude is it much worse than some of the awful clothes that some people wear.
- tv shirts with rude words on them also complex - both me and hubbie possess them, I was rightly wrist slapped for wearing one to work and hubbie ducked back into the house to chuck a shirt on to cover up offending word whilst he passed neighbourhood kids, at the end of the day a word is still only a word and I think there is some overeaction here
- the issue of burkas and veils is worrying because of the issue of enforcement, some women from Islamic cultures actually have demanded the right to wear this gear as it makes them safe from being leered at as well being an expression of their faith but it should not be complusary to wear it nor should you be regarded as 'fair game' to be leered at or worse if you're not. That said to the guy with the sexist boss who happened to be Moslim too it is worth pointing out that many men of all sorts of walks of life and religious beliefs have blamed what women were wearing for their own offensive and in some cases abusive behaviour towards them. Oscar Wilde once said that there are two categories of people - the charming and the tedious and there are plenty of both types in all belief systems as horrible people are not above using another belief system to justify their behaviour be it a religion or an allegience to something else (e.g lots of people in this country are offensive in the name of patrotism).
