No no no!! Think about it!!

Without the rhyming bits; I'm an only child. This guy's dad is MY dad's son.

My dad's son - it can only be his brother or him...and seeing as he doens't have a brother...it's HIM!!!

Cafram you have correctly worked out who is doing the speaking but you haven't worked out who he is speaking about.

"This guy's dad" is me. Agreed.

so who is "this guy" in the picture (which is what the original question is)?

I reckon this guy in the picture is my son.

Ok. If I were the person talking I would say "my dad's son", which would be my brother. My dad's brother would be my uncle, and my dad's dad would be my grandfather.

So when this guy (let's call him Joe smiley - winkeye) says's "my dad's son" he's talking about his brother.

Seeing as he has already said that he's an only child, it must be him.

A chap is looking at a portrait of a man.
He points to the picture and says;
"Brothers and sisters have I none,
but that man's father is my father's son"
Who is the person in the picture?

The man in the picture has a father.
That father is 'my father's son' ie person pointing - me.
But the picture is not of the father, it is of that father's son. 'that man's father'.

See? So the picture is of the son.

When Joe talks about my dad's son, he means Joe. When Joe says "that guy's father is my dad's son", he means "that guy's father is Joe". If that guy's father is Joe, then that guy must be Joe's son, Pete.

Is mise Duncan

OK - logic seems to have failed. Let's try the brute force method...

Is it an Aardvark? No
Is it an Abacus? No
Is it an Abalone? No
(Please bear with me - this could take some time....)

No - that doesn't have a neck.
That animal that Bernard Mathews gets his chicken drummers from?
The French team in the 50 man yard of ale competition?
...

100 legs etc

Gnomon - time to move on

Is that one riddle or two?

Are we talking about one thing/animal/person which has 100 legs and a long neck, has no head and can't stand?

Or is it two separate riddles: one thing that has a long neck and no head, another that has 100 legs and can't stand.

The thing with 100 legs which can't stand could be a jeans shop or a very long relay race.

A teapot has a long neck but no head. So does a decapitated giraffe.

I have it: a meat storage room in an abattoir specialising in exotic animal meat.
