Board games from hell!

I like regular Trivial Pursuit, but I *adore* the Star Wars version. My brothers and I play teams to make it move faster.
In our younger days we made up our own rules for Monopoly in which all the Community Chest money and the like got paid into the Free Parking bit in the center of the board. When you landed on that spot, you got to collect all the $$. We also set up marathon games with two boards and had rules governing the figure 8 routing and property purchases across the two boards. We didn't have cable TV.

No. We're all together with enough leisure time to play about two or three times a year now - usually on holidays.

I love Trivial Pursuit but it's been banned in my house because my parents say that they can't win. I'm quite fond of the Pop Culture edition....

No one will play regular Triv with me, either, so I downloaded the 80's Edition for my phone and play that whenever I'm stuck waiting for something (usually when picking my son up from school on guitar-lesson day).
What a sad g*t I am!

I'm with 3 <"welcome-to-our-network"panda-smiley> and it cost me a fiver, but personally I thought it was worth it!

I got banned from playing Cluedo for a number of years. This was because I would always get bored after a while and just guess at what the answer was. I'm slightly better now
Nobody will ever play Monopoly because once, when I was about five, I completely trounced everyone and my parents' friends couldn't deal with the fact they had just been beaten by a five year old when they were actually playing to win
Otherwise, there used to be this...it was either Goosebumps or Ghostbusters...game that you had to set up twiddly things on the board, put out cards, fill things with smaller things, and all sorts and then it was just a boring kids' game after all that work.

When I was younger we had a board game called "Careers" - anyone else come across this? You went round the board by rolling dice, and if you landed at the beginning of a Career, you could opt to go down that route, to collect money, fame and happiness points. At the beigiining of the game you set your own target combination of money ($000's), fame and happiness points, which had to add up to 60. You then headed down the careers that would help you achieve your target.
Anyone else come across this one?
I also like playing Scrabble - especially "rude" Scrabble, where every word has to be...well, the clue's in the title, obviously. Double entendres are also allowed.
I don't have anyone to play with at the moment, so I play with myself.

During holidays I play speed Scrabble with anyone who's willing to chance it.
And Careers - I used to play that a lot as a kid. Don't know what happened to it. I think we wore it out or lost enough of the bits that we couldn't play anymore.

Can't play rude Scrabble, though it sounds like great fun, due to making sure we always involve my 13 yr old to improve his vocabulary; there are words that I'm sure he knows and I don't particularly want to encourage in his vocabulary at the present time, and I certainly don't want him knowing his Mom knows them yet!!

Board games are too passive.
I prefer to play Twister with my nieces.

Take "rude" scrabble a step further and play "strip scrabble"; after the tykes are in bed of course.
You'll need the scrabble dictionary for that one.......
I HATE Mousetrap!
I used to play a game called "Full House"; about guests checking in to hotels. Haven't seen one in decades though..........
I like Mastermind, and love Clue except when you play with children who "forget" to look at their cards and you can't possibly guess the murderer................

There's one board game I remember as an excercise in frustration. The English name is ludo, I believe. The Dutch name is much more evocative: 'Mens-erger-je-niet', which roughly translates as 'Folks, don't get annoyed'. Yeah, right!

The problem for me in our house is finding anyone else willing to play a board game, then deciding which one to play.
My son introduced me to Munchkin this year - he's won every time we've played so far.
A couple of games that I think are quite good, but don't seem well known are 'Outrage' (stealing the crown jewels) & 'The great balloon race'.
One of the worst for assembly was Kerplunk.

OH!!! You've reminded me by talking about lesser-known games! Does anyone know of a game called "Maze"? where you play on a baord with...well a maze on it, one of the proper stately house hedge ones, and you can banish people to places on the board if something...well okay I can't REALLY remember because I haven't played in years.
The point IS I can't find a version ANYWHERE anymore! I can't work out if it's been stopped or what!

No idea, but that remeinds me that we have a wonderful board game called : Labyrinth, and you have to collect items, but the labyrinth changes permanently,i.e. with every turn of another player. It's fantastic, must play that once again !

Yes, I like that one too!
What about pencil & paper games - good for journeys & holidays? Battleships is a perennial favourite. My younger son sued to enjoy 'boxes' - now that IS tedious to mark out!
