(The Return of) What book are you reading at this time?
Baconlefeets Posted Jan 3, 2005
I've just finished the first book in the Series of Unfortunate Events, by Lemony Snickett. I can't find book 2 or 3 anywhere now!!
Are there any other adults reading these books or am I the only one?

Right, Finished Jennifer Government (Max Barry), which I can recommend to anyone. It's a satire on globalisation and privatisation, and is really very funny.
Currently on Pratchett's Maskerade.

Finished Maskerade (boy, I'm getting through a shed load of books at the moment!).
I find Pratchett an interesting, enjoyable read, but I think he's getting a bit repetitive now.
Struggling my way into Philip K Dick's Dr. Bloodmoney now.

I think that the Discworld series is close to running its course. The newer stuff is still good though

Edward the Bonobo - Gone. Posted Jan 7, 2005
Stasiland by Anna Funder was extremely good. Personal accounts of people who had either been affected by or were members of the secret police in the old DDR. After reading it I wached the extraordinarily good film, 'Goodbye, Lenin' set around the collapse of the DDR.
Currently browsing The Kenneth Williams Diaries while decididing whether to start Philip Roth's The Plot Against America or Anthony Burgess' Malayan Trilogy.

I got the first three Lemony Snickett books as an all in one. Didn't think they were that great (but I had just finished Philip Pullmans trilogy) May try them again due to the fillum.
Currently working my way through Terry Goodkind's 'Stone of Tears'. It is as good as the first (Wizards First Rule) but I think I'm more in TV watching mode than book reading.

I've jsut started on the second of Lemony Snicketts. It's ok, not brilliant. I'm looking forward to seeing the film thought, I think Jim Carrey will make it more appealing

I have just started Pullman's trilogy, starting with Northern Lights. Only one chapter in, but, I'm enjoying it.

Stephen King - The Dark Tower. Was sorely disappointed with the ending, especially as its taken him 34 years to finish the whole story!

I finished Dr. Bloodmoney, didn't think it was that great. Any Philip K Dick readers out there who can point me in the direction of a better book, or are they all like that? (in which case, I'll drop him from my list of authors to read.) I'm now halfway through You Shall Know Our Velocity, by Dave Eggers, and I'm considering whether to continue to the end. I read A Heartbreaking Work Of Staggering Genius a coupla tears ago, and that was quite good, but this one's getting a bit tedious.
