King-B, I'm enjoying TRTP, but it is a hard slog in places. I guess i'd find it more interesting if I wasn't already inclined to be a bit of a socialist anyway.

Hi, fords, I am glad to see that I am not the only one who hates the works of Dickens...

well I wouldn't say I hate him but I don't exactly rush to read him
in fact I haven't read anything by him since leaving school over 20 years ago

*lone voice in the Dickens wilderness*
I like most of his, with the exception of the Pickwick papers. Bah.
I read a goodly chunk of The Kalahari Typing School for Men. Fantastic. TRTP is too depressing and worthy for Christmas.
And in a week I'll be able to do LOTR again.

Just started Jingo by Terry Pratchett. I gave up on White Powder, Green Light in the end. It just didn't engage my attention enough.

Im reading two books at the moment.
"Rude Kids" by Simon Donald, which is a suprisingly touching book about his life and the way Viz developed into a publishing phenomenon. What is also very surprising is that it doesnt have as much swearing as I thought it would have.
The other book is a collection of the late grea Bills Hick' routines, letters, song and other odds and ends. Sort of like the Salmon of Doubt but with much more swearing. Even more swearing than i thought would be in "Rude Kids". The book is called "Love all the people" and i higly recomend them both.
one love

I did enjoy the 'notes of a small island', but liked 'Down under' better - it made me laugh and .
Got 'Middlesex'( Jeffrey Eugenides) today, sounds fascinating, will start reading that soon.

Umberto Eco - would it be Baudolino? Bear with it at the beginning - as it progresses it improves ALOT
