Definitely a good idea! It's very irritating that everything's shut here, and they'd get more customers, too, I think. Good for the economy and all, and provides a few more jobs...

I tend to agree DIY shops, Supermarkets, cafes, resturants and clothes shops being open is very useful on a Sunday.

It depends. Archaic as it is, the main religion of the UK is still officially Christianity-based, and of course Sunday was God's rest day by that belief system. It seems we're moving away from that though, lots of shops now open early on a Sunday anyway, but don't let you buy anything until the official Sunday trading hours.
Everyone knows how annoying it is when you run out of milk on a Sunday afternoon and you can't buy any because the shops have closed early. But then again, if shops opened on Sunday, it would mean lots of people (not just in retail - all along the supply chain) would have to work on days that they might otherwise spend with their families or relaxing. Emergency services staff are the people we tend to think of working over weekends - but it would be a lot more complicated than just changing the sign on the door
Personally I think it would make sense to have Post Offices and banks and things like that open on Sundays, at least for part of the day; and also for shops to be open for longer; but I can't see it happening.

Day of rest ideal is outdated, but I respect religions if that is how they wish to be it is their choice but others should make their own choise and if shops are open they can do as they see fit.

Well, as for that, it'd be a chance for all those immigrants people complain about taking away their jobs - I'd vote for part-time jobs on the weekend, maybe a bit higher paid, for people who don't work during the week or have to do other things. Also works out for shared parenting and working, or students like me...

And with more things being bought and sold, employers can afford to hire more people, meaning more people have spending money, meaning more things get bought and sold...

How would that cause inflation? It's not like the capacities for production don't exist. I also think a lot of unemployment problems could be solved by reintroducing the concept of servants, but that doesn't fit with our modern egalitarian mindset...

No, you're right, that's not inflation. Sorry, I only had four hours' sleep last night, evidenced by the fact that this afternoon I saw a cow zoom past my second-floor window. Or at least I think I did.

Happens at my mother's place all the time, the pasture is on a level with the 2nd floor bedroom window, as the house is in a dip...

They do when they're being fed at the other end of the pasture...

Because it's not always as simple as what the customers want. I would love for Tesco to better their two-packets-of-Fox's-biscuits-for-£1 deal by replacing it with a two-packets-of-Fox's-biscuits-for-free-and-a-bonus-bag-of-Werther's-Originals deal; but somehow I don't think they'll do that.

It's also about what people want not always being good or sensible for them... I'd like more right now, but I shouldn't...
