Some people cite this overworked phrase as a proof of God. But imagine, what if no coincidences ever happened, never ever. Wouldn't that be more proof of some guiding intelligence?

Yes! Given the mathematics of the universe, it seems impossible not to have coincidences.

Our brains seems wired to recognise patterns in things, and this is a factor in the phenomenon known as the 'coincidence'.
Many, many more non-coincidences pass us by constantly than coincidences. It's just that we take note of coincidences and we ignore non-coincidences because the former stick out more than the latter (which don't stick out at all, in fact).
Imagine if we *did* notice non-coincidences and went around going "Ooooh! That means nothing!", or "That never happened to me too!", or "Not the same here!". We'd be constantly entertained.

its funny when there is a coincidence but then you find out it isnt for some reason and you get a little depressed that it isnt.
