Whe I think of how deprived I was as a child it's the ninth wonder of the world that I'm not only still here but also unbitter and twist free. All the same I have my off days. And this is one of them.No ballet lessons! No boarding school midnight feasts and no pony of my own on which I could win rosettes at the local gymkhana!!! If you didn't have the childhood you read about in books feel free to join the club.

Surely not many people have "the perfect" childhood. I had good fun - friends, BMX bike, sledging in winter etc etc. But there was also the fighting, the parents arguing, avoiding the school bullies, etc etc. In the end I think all these things make you a more rounded person.
But I would hate it if my childhood had been all - or even mostly, bad. Is that what you're saying your childhood was like? If so - then how about doing now what you could do then.

Oops I meant "doing now what you couldn't do then".
And Pheloxi - so far scientists have been able to teleport a photon, and (I think) a whole atom. So you never know.....!

As a young boy, I wanted very much to have a horse for myself. At Christmas and my birthday I would drop hints, becoming increasingly obvious that I wanted a horse. After many angry confrontations with my parents, they finally gave in. On my 12th birthday I excitedly unwrapped my gifts and was led out to the garden to find my very own Shetland Pony.
I played with that pony for months, watching him grow bigger and bigger until he was fully grown, wherein, I hit the f****r over the head with a brick and barbecued him whole. He lasted a good month or so after that, tasting delicious with a side-serving of greek salad and a glass of Jacobs Creek.
My parents were right all along though, I lost interest in the end and we ended up throwing the back legs away as we needed the room in the fridge-freezer for my younger brothers Panda.

My sister ran over me on a bike once in Adelaide. She deliberately rode onto the pavement, where I was wheezing along attempting to race her; knocked me down and' unable to find the brakes, apparently ,kept going.Had I been on that bike I would have done exactly the same thing ,I was a tiresome child. I am always secretly envious of anyone that has an inner child that they want to connect with.I would only want to give mine a good smacking....
