It's been here for a year - it's about time it was reviewed!

You might prefer to put the dates into narrative rather than list form, but that's probably just me.
Any famous Newportonians, worthy of mention ?

As Newport's one of the most common place names in the UK (maybe that's exaggerating, but there are several - I grew up near Newport, Shropshire!) how about changing the title to Newport, Monmouthshire, Wales (or similar?)
Regarding the rest of the article, it's good but could do with a little polishing... hopefully I will have a chance to read it carefully in the next week or so and will pop back with some more constructive advice.
I'd like to see a little more about Newport County in particular - as far as I know they used to be the fourth Welsh club in the English Football League, and when they left the league, they were forced by the FAW to play in England for a couple of years as they wanted to stay in the English non-league pyramid and re-enter the League, whereas the FAW wanted them to play in the League of Wales.

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho Posted Jun 27, 2003
"Standing at the 'gateway between England and Wales, Newport is a vibrant, forward-thinking city steeped in a rich industrial heritage, dating from the nineteenth century when its important strategic location was first recognised. Today it is a multi-cultural community with its own unique atmosphere, where traditional industries exist alongside new electronics and financial service sectors."
Blimey mate... that reads like a Chamber of Commerce pamphlet
A very nice entry though, aside from that
One typo I noticed - 'renaissance'

Two small items:
1) There are lots of towns named Newport, and although you mention it eraly in the article, oyu might consider altering the title to reflect to which Newport you are referring. I'm from the U.S., and there's a few Newports over here too!
2) You might consider a short para for a conclusion. Ending with a list seemed a little out of place.
I like this entry a lot! Even without these two adjustments, it will fit well in the edited guide.

The title should be Newport, Monmouthshire, United Kingdom, no?
Or should it be Newport, Gwent, Wales?

If it's the one I'm thinking of, I grew up in Eccleshall, nine miles away and the other side of the county border...

Oglord seems to be MIA. Does anyone support the idea of putting this, rather good start to an entry, into the flea market?
