Well done. I had black clackers, and my arm was certainly blue at times, but I never experienced a serious injury from clackers.

Last y<ear, my sister brought me a pair of green ones, but I didn't really get the hang of them again.
My boys tried a few time, but weren't as hooked as we were as children.

I have tried to figure out what the appeal was, but I have no idea, other than everyone else had them.

I had a pair when they were relaunched in the 90s, which according to my mum weren't proper clackers as they'd been made safe. Instead of string there was two thin strips of plastic jutting out of each ball and instead of a ring in the middle they were attached on the end of a stick to keep little fingers out of the path of flying plastic, they were, thankfully, still day-glo (mine were the trifecta of retina burning: neon orange, lime green and fluorescent yellow). However all that safety did defeat the purpose of a good toy. Isn't the mark of a good toy how many injuries it causes before outrage occurs?

Competition. That, and the fact that they must have been cheap, or else we'd not have had any.

I think you're right Laura, they weren't really clackers in the 90s and they were as safe as a baby's rattle.

Mine were glow in the dark lime green.

My son had some of those safety clackers, they just weren't the same as my red ones.

It's what I always suspected - we're always looking for *legal* ways to hurt our children.

My cousin had a black pair with a skull and crossbones on them. He used them as a weapon far more than he ever did as a toy...

Yeah, that could have been part of the problem with clackers.

I never had clackers.. I was grown up then, and had just started w*rk in the Real World..

Well, not that sad considering the options ....

I can't remember what colour my clackers were, but I remember a friend who had two sisters who had both fractured their wrists with them. Their mother had banned them, and if you clacked outside her house, she'd coming running out.

At this point, my younger brothers were into either using my old school satchel to parachute my favourite doll down the pub stairwell..
