Well, now all I need to do is catch up on my sleep....
Now that the summer is nearly over, (frosty mornings, ice on the s trough, etc...), I'll be back
Of course, it's going to take me a little while to clear the cobwebs out of my personal space...
And what's up with this black skin? And the new smileys? Is there anything else I should know about?
~jwf~, I really like your style... With a little work, your post could form the nucleus of the Area 42 Overview !!!
BTW, I wouldn't be surprised if ol' vegiman wasn't back in the swing soon, too

Hi Tal - Realistically - I cant see me giving it my all till the New Year - Christmas is looming and things are getting hectic to say the least. That does not mean I will not be around and ticking things off on hootoo as they happen.
jwf~ seriously if you wish to join Tal and myself in the organisational side of this project you will be a welcome asset.
Catcha all soon

I was wondering if there was anything that I could do to help. This has always seemed like an interesting and worthwhile project to me.

Sheesh! I go away for a few days and come back to find out I'm being drafted into more work than I can handle!
Seriously, it was not my intention to tell Tal and vegiman how to run their railroad. I was just 'goofing' around and poking this lazy horse with a stick to see if it had any life in it. It always did; there were lots of volunteers when it started but it didn't get organised enough to carry on because the principals got sidetracked by real-life before committees and agendas were established. It just needs a little push.
I had promised myself that I was going to stay away from this computer and enjoy the summer but I only got it half right. I truly envy Taleisin for having his priorities straight. Same for vegiman.
But now that the trough is icing over maybe Tal can start deputising folks to do the research. Fred Smith there looks keen to get involved, and I'm sure many of the original volunteers are still subscribed and just waiting for Tal and veg to pass out assignments.
Please feel free to copy and paste and comment on my posting above as an 'entry' in the Area 42 area. I'm just glad it woke the sleeping giants and hope that now Area 42 can forge ahead. I'd be happy to proof-read and comment on any contributions if I have time, but my duties at CAC (that's the new Committe for Alien Content - which sprang from the fourheads of <./>AGGGAG</.> ) and a planned new column for are as much as I dare promise these days.
I'll be watching !
peace

Hey ~jwf~
No Probs
but as you pointed out it still needs a little sorting out - I will put a promise here in writing - I will return to complete the organisation side as I am sure Tal will be also, in the New Year.
new volunteers can go to
http://www.vegiman.co.uk/Area42.html
to enroll, although do not expect a response very quickly at the moment
catcha soon

So there ya go folks, the official word from one of the Area 42 co-founders! It's alive and breathing deeply.
And it promises not to interfere with your Xmas shopping and drinking plans.
Shall we start a countdown?
Ok.
61 days to go.

'Who's on first?'
I don't know that anyone is still interested in pursuing this sadly neglected project... It seems very difficult to find the time/energy/inspiration to create a structured, organised approach
'structure' and 'organisation' are somewhat foreign to me, anyway
However, I was looking for information on the h2g2 logo, the other day, and the hootoo search engine didn't come up with anything particularly useful. Which leads me to speculate on what other h2g2 secrets lie buried in the virtual sands..
Someone want to with this one? Or does anyone know of other h2g2 'mysteries'?
This might be a good starting point for articles, which could be linked together and maybe, just maybe, form a basis for 'the project'
.... That's wot th' showman sed!
~ jwf ~ scribblo ergo sum Posted May 2, 2003
I'll certainly promote it in the next issue of <./>AggGag</.>/CAC
See if we can't generate some new interest.

... and slowly, the ancient crypt door opened; the heavy rock slab grating horribly on the cracked and time-worn floor...
...deep within the dusty shadows, a formless something stirred...

A wonderful ambitious project ... But what is the actual status as of today.
I've been away for three years and upon returning find myself interested in exactly this project ... for a number of reasons ...

Oh, sp*t!
... All i tried to do was to find out if anyone had done some history research....and now I have the keys to H2G2's room 101, area 42, - one of the most ambitious and urealistic projects ever at h2g2 - and I don't even know where the door is!
