h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Yup! All 32 of us. Put out to pasture. At the end of this month (or sooner actually) all of us will be hitting the pavement looking for jobs. The company that bought us only wants the products we sold, not the staff. The owner is giving us a 90-day severance package. When he called all of us in to tell us he said: "You should all be proud that you helped make this company so successful." Great, yeah, successful. He made 23 million; we got 90 days severance. And I created those labels! That's me out there on the shelves of every Wal-mart, Kmart, grocery store and hardware store in America. It was "us". We were all a "family" (or so he always told us). I bought it, the whole "I love you like you were one of my own kids".

And all of this comes from the fact that he couldn't keep his you-know-what in his pants. Then got a case of the "guilties" and told his wife about it. Now he has no wife, his three sons haven't spoken to him in a year. And he doesn't have us either. But he got 47 million for the products we made successful. Of course, his ex-wife gets half of that.

It sure doesn't seem to have made him very happy.

Mind if I ask which brand I should be avoiding so the almost former boss can take his highly successful company and go slithering down the tubes?

Very dear Michele I am SO very sorry about the news. The only thing I can say is that if he is such a wrotten guy that he can kick you all out and walk off with a fortune you are better off without him. That is small consolation, but my darling husband Dick used to say "It is the way you pick yourself up and dust yourself off that is important". And I am sure that you are going to get something equally as good and happily with a more loyal guy or firm. Very loving thoughts. AR1

That's bad news, Michele, and I am so sorry to hear it.

Your former boss has to live with his kids not speaking
to him, and his wife draining his assets. Once you
find another job, you don't ever have to have anything
to do with him again.

Well - I look at it his way Batty... I'll be interviewing over the summer - which means free time poolside! (I mean - come on, it could have really been gruesome and happened in the dead of winter!)

I'll get something - and it will probably pay more, and I will probably like it just as much (eventually) I am thinking of doing a 10 week crash course in web design... just depends on how much money I'll be getting at the end of this month.

Everything will be ok - it always works out in the end! (thats why they made sewers! )

hehehe... I did the same thing between jobs in NYC. Took a mini-vacation while a pseudo-looked for a job.. the atmosphere in the next office was much better.. I miss them terribly about now..
