A Conversation for Anti-Abba Society
You're all wrong, and you smell of wee

Really. I mean, really. What a sorry bunch of misanthropes you all are. Unfurl the most pitiful banner and you all come loping in, nailing your drab colours to whatever worm-ridden mast it's flying from.
If you're going to dislike Abba, at least have the wit to analyse why. "They're crap." "They whinge" "They're just Abba".
Sad, so sad.
I am, of course, a product of my era. My sister was a huge Abba fan, so I heard all their records more than enough to put me off, and yet it didn't. To this day I still enjoy their songs, simply because they had the (frighteningly rare) gift of being able to write and perform *fantastic* pop songs. I can even remember the name of their sound engineer (because he was often profiled in the Abba fan magazines).
And I've seen them live.
And if Abi's young man recalls me slamming the door in the face of his singing Abba songs, I suggest that says more about his singing than anything else.

Its a lovely singing voice... its just loud.

I agree with Jim! That you're all wrong and smell of wee.
And I agree about Abba as well.
I love Abba, they make good music, with fantastic lyrics, and I don't just listen to the 'greatest hits' type stuff, but some of their lesser known stuff as well. I've bought a lot of their albums second hand, and I just wish I had a record player to play them on!
And they can be quite raunchy as well. Dirty lot, they really were!
See J'au-æmne, I was right when I called you a meany!

If you're going to hate something, pick something truly hateful.

That man, Jim Lynn!!!
Not only is he a technical genius, he also has a good taste in music and a great way with words!
Let us all praise Michael B. Tretow and sing 'People Need Love' - never before has yodeling sounded so wonderful!
(Mina, how can you live without a record player??? As the Muse of Listening to Old LP-records I'm very sad to hear that you haven't got one. )

This is the lazy bit Ottox, I have got one really. It needs a needle though, and a complete overhaul, as when I turn the amp on to listen to other bits of the hi fi, the turn table turns and turns and turns... Along with other various bits wrong with it, ie the CD player needs a new motor, and one of the tape decks needs something done to it. It's me thinking I can't be bothered to get it repaired. If it can be of course, I bought it in 1988.

I can analyse one reason why I don't like Abba!
Without Abba, the world would be free of Steps, S Club 7, Hear'Say, Popstars and Pop Idol.
Enough said.

I love ABBA!
How could I not love them, having grown up with them, and living in Sweden?
I remember an amusing list of what characterizes people my age - one of the signs was 'always playing ABBA after midnight when '
A proof of how good their music is, is the success the group A-Teens (formerly ABBA Teens) had with their covers of ABBA songs, amazingly true to the original versions (when I heard their cover of Super Trooper I thought it was the original...)
Go Jim - go!

"Without Abba, the world would be free of Steps, S Club 7, Hear'Say, Popstars and Pop Idol."
But then you could, for example, blame the Stones for Aerosmith, or the Beatles for Embrace, or Stax and Motown for Destiny's Child.

You've persuaded me Titania, I'm going to bring my Abba tapes to the meet up and play them loudly in the corner!
Abba can't be blamed for Steps etc, there is no similarity between the bands at all.
Brotherhood of Man is an entirely different story of course, Abba is totally to blame for them.

I love ABBA! ABBA rock!
I only possess myself a copy of Gold and More Gold - but my parents have the Super Trouper and ABBA LPs, and they're great!
* fondly remembers listening to "Me and I" as a child *
Oh yes, and that track "Hey, Hey Helen" is an absolute classic.
* burbles with ABBA delight *

Yay Mina!
I shall have to put "ABBA Fan" on my name badge for the meet...

an italic could start...waitforit...an auntie abba campaign, run by the BBC (or an employee) to promote them. ok, so i wrote 19 words for a very weak pun, but you abba fans probably need some real fun in your lives
