"Classic" artists?

~Just been looking on iTunes. They've a bit called "Introducing 50 Classic Artists" with EPs for 2-3 quid. Included as "classic artists" are James Blunt, David Gray and Craig David.
Have I fallen into a worm hole and wound up in 2054?? Since when did an artist who hit the scenes in the past couple of years relesed an album in the last 6 months get labeled as a "classic" artist? Thought that title was reserved for someone who had hit at least a decade ago, or who had generally been about for ages.

That's what I thought too! (not meaning to sound like a music snob or anything)
I suppose you could argue that some of David Gray's and James Blunt's tunes have become modern classics liked by an awful lot of people (there's no denying JB writes good tunes, I just find his voice isn't always my cup of I have to be in the mood for it)
I like David Gray. Babylon is a song that seems to follow me around, and whenever I'm having a bad time I find it on the radio or whatever (spooky huh?) and it puts a smile I my face. White Ladder, Sail Away, Silver Lining, Be Mine, all those I really like, but I'm not sure I agree with Craig David as a "classic artist"

Yeah. Would've thought a "classic" artist would be someone like Elvis, or Shirley Bassey, or Ella Fitzgerald. Not someone who's only just popped onto the scene.

Most of the others on the list were people like Ella Fitzgerald, Ian Dury, T-Rex and others who more deserve to be there. Not that I've anything against James Blunt, but he shouldn't be on that list.

Probably not. I'm trying to think who's recently released something that's become classic other than David Gray, and I'm struggling a bit. Oh, I suppose Keane or Franz Ferdinand. Somewhere Only We Know's become a bit of an anthem, and I don't think they've written anything I haven't liked, so that's got to be good.

Yeah, or Coldplay too. They've a few anthems. Though they've been around for more than 5 minutes.

Really? I like the stuff from x and y and Parachutes best. There are some on A Rush Of Blood To The Head that I like but I'm not so keen on the new stuff. It does grow on you, but I can't help thinking that by (as Chris Martin said) "trying to make it ok for kids to like Coldplay again" they've kind of lost their trademark.

That's good to know. thought it was just me. I like the way Chris Martin uses the piano on violet hill though-but that's about it.

Have to say I haven't got into Coldplay's latest album. their earlier stiff was the best they've done I think.

yeah. I think it's been a bit of a shame how Chris Martin feels he's got to chance the outlook of the band musically just for a bunch of critics who've slagged them off. They should go where the music takes them.
What I like most about Coldplay is the way Chris uses the piano, with songs like Clocks. I liked Fix You too, but it suffered from too much radio airplay and started to get on my nerves, Talk is a brilliant record (love the guitar on that)
btw has anyone noticed how since Glasto finished no one's been playing Elbow on the radio anymore? I really like them.

Strange that, though.
Think your right that some songs got so much air time. No matter how good a song is, you can over-do it.
