Sinful??
NPY Started conversation Jun 17, 2008
Just been reminded of something Ian Paisley said a few years ago, right before an election too. He said that line dancing, like all forms of dancing was a sin.

Would love to know where he gets it from. Especially since he's a minuitser and, up until recently, was the head of the Free Presbyterian church. Does he not read his own Bible??
Psalm 150:
1 Praise the LORD.
Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens.
2 Praise him for his acts of power;
praise him for his surpassing greatness.
3 Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,
praise him with the harp and lyre,
4 praise him with tambourine and dancing,
praise him with the strings and flute,
5 praise him with the clash of cymbals,
praise him with resounding cymbals.
6 Let everything that has breath praise the LORD.
Praise the LORD.
says it quite clearly in verse 4...."praise him with tambourine and dancing".

Well there's your answer - no tambourines in the line-dancing.

Mabey you should mail/email him this bible verse or if they have this kind of debate in Ireland ask him at the next town hall meeting.(A kind of political debate were the aduance gets to ask questions.

Beatrice Posted Jun 17, 2008
Err, do you know anything about Northern Ireland, specifically with respect to religion and politicians???
Sinful??
BeowulfShaffer Posted Jun 17, 2008
Not really, but I never let ignorance of the facts get in the way of making suggestions(ok I do but only in real life not online)

NPY Posted Jun 17, 2008
Good point Beatrice. There's no way Paisley would really answer a question in a town hall meeting, not that we really have them anyway. He'd probably start shouting that the Bible only has 149 Psalms and that ir's a modren blasphmous slander to say dancing's ok.

Oooooh he's one of thoose people. Still might be intersting to watch and slightly damaging to him,but don't think it would be to smart or as damaging as I would hope.

Know what you mean. Since I first heard the story a part of me has really wanted to ask him about it and point out the verse. But I'll never get the chance. Might check out the DUP website (if they're up to date enough) and leave a message to that effect.

Sorry, I'm in the wrong shoes and the wrong frame of mind - I apologise if I was snappy, but given the recent furore over Iris Robinson's comments on homosexuals I don't think the DUP do an awful lot of listening to reasoned debate.

I'm reminded of a quote which was made, i believe, by a former british prime minister, I forget who,
"If the word no was taken out of the English language Ian Paisley would be left speechless"
Sinful??
NPY Posted Jun 17, 2008
It's his favourite word after all.
Beatrice, don't go! You didn't sound snappy to me at all!! You know what the DUP are like anyway. not exactly the open-for-discussion, friendly types, are they?

Just looked at that article.
Made me laugh
I agree with you NPY.
But honestly, how daft, do they not realise how stuck in the dark ages this makes them look???!! It just serves to put people off Christianity more.

As someone bought up in England attending a CofE school and going to services every week it's people like Paisley that make me pro-republican/anti-unionist
Sinful??
NPY Posted Jun 19, 2008
I know!! Doesn't do anyone any favours. No wonder it's the very traditional churches that are loosing the young people and people have such a negative impression after seeing Paisley ranting and raving about something stupid.
Sinful??
NPY Posted Jun 19, 2008
Why do people do that though? Did Paisley not see how people would react?? Not exactly a great PR job.
