After seeing the Dr Who trailer

this new series looks great.I love the shots in London it looks like Darleks invasion earth only better.

I hope they make a good spin off feature film this time.

I have both the Peter Cushing films on dvd there actualy not that bad .

But the one they made in the 1990s was terrible.

I hope they deleted that one.

IMO, it wasn't that bad... but it wasn't good either. On balance, I'd say you're right.

I didn't like the Tardis control room being so big, and I didn't like it that the woman got to stand there looking pretty and not actually say anything. I hope she's a bit more modern in the show itself!

My son says he wants to watch it, but I don't really care one way or the other.

FRom what I've read, the woman (Billie Piper?) has to do a somewhat more than the "stand there, look pretty, ask dumb questions and scream a bit" in the new series.

Surely that's the whole idea behind the companions?

The 1996 movie was made for an American audience who hadn't seen much of the original series.

The Doctor is half human? The Eye of Harmony is kept in the TARDIS? Whatever!

Current grapevine rumours are that it was a deliberate "viral advertising" leak. Whether it was intentional or not, it's gained the show a heck of a lot of attention.

I read some where that Leonard Nimoy was to have directed a European funded Dr who film, but that was torpedoed by the BBC to do the US funded TV film. In the 90s

That was a big mistake.

Leonard Nimoy directing DR who would have been a fascinating concept .

However past mistakes over and done with .

This new series looks great and DR who is back on track.

The tardis in this new series actually looks more like the Tardis in the Petre Cushing films than the original series.

Apparently the Peter Cushing TARDIS was actually a more accurate representation of a real Police Box than the TV version.

I don't mined that it's so large in side, that is the point after all.

An antenna and the domed top of a Darlek rise from the water.

The Darlek makes it's way up the bank of the Thames and stops on dry land .

The top opens and Kelly Holmes gets out.

What's a 'darlek'?

I am looking forward to it hugely, but I doubt I'll get to see any of it before it's released on dvd. I shall certainly miss the first episode as we are out and about.

Heard of this cute thing called a 'VCR', Blues? Anyone who tries to stop me watching any episodes will be having a short, but exciting, conversation with something very pointy.

I have heard of vcrs, but to be honest haven't had one since we moved. And no one seems interested in selling us one because 'there's no demand' so they've stopped stocking them.

I have always thought of Dr Who as beign a slightly quirky programme with an eccentric main character but fairly mild mannered (apart from Colin Bakers first few episodes when his regeneration meesed him up a bit). Also, William Hartnell was grumpy but still eccentric and he played it fairly straight I believe (I am not old enough to remember!).

Have have seen one teaser trailer of the show: the one with the Dr running down the tunnel with the fire ball behind him and walking with a swagger into the Tardis. It all seemed very serious. Ecclestone has basically said he thought the way the others dressed was quirky hence his t-shirt and leather jacket.

I will not pre-judge however I will comment. Does the panel think that with the series getting more serious and with more CGI that it will be more action based than character based(i.e. more American). Or can we be sad an theorise that as the Dr is regenerated into a new character then this regeneration just happens to be more serious than the other ones.

The good thing is that Steve Moffat and Russel T Davies write very good character based drama/comedy so should I be worried at all.

I'm with you Kerr, we're supposed to be staying at the in-laws that weekend but I have asked, nay demanded, that the television be free at 7pm and that there is total silence during the programme.

I can't imagine the current series going all action based- in fact I think Russell Davies has specifically said that was the main problem with the McGann TVM. Also, if you look at the stills that have been released, the 'baddies' have much more characterised (not a word, probably) appearances than previous monsters.

You lucky, fortunate people! You don't have long to wait, we may have years.

Why is there not a Tardis smiley?

You may have longer to wait, but you'll be the ones who still have a copy of the tape when the BBC junks the masters.
