- "Does anyone else find the thought of SoRB being experienced in the manufacturing of metal bikinis slightly disturbing or is it just me?"
It could be worse - how about the thought of SoRB *in* a metal bikini?

I watched the last episode (4?) and thought it was a load of rubbish. I think I'm going to abandon Torchwood to the 99.99% of televisual output that I don't watch now.

Well I am sure I am going to be in a minority here but I thought that was good.
I am really liking the moral ambiguity of Jack, he isnt really a "proper" good guy is he?

Primeval Mudd (formerly Roymondo) Posted Nov 12, 2006
It's so close to being good yet just not quite there. Jack's old GF should have been introduced a couple of episodes ago so that we cared about her, and some of the dialogue was clunky as you like.
Good story though.

I think the style is starting to settle down away from the introductions although Toshiko has'nt had her episode of fame yet.
Speaking of minor characters, the mother certainly had bad day.

Is it just me, or does it remind anyone else of the eighties children's TV series 'Shadows'?

JulesK Posted Nov 12, 2006
Liked that one better than episode 4. It's just managed to keep me bothered for next week now (tonight was its last chance).
Sorry, I don't remember 'Shadows'.
I too thought that mother was having a particularly bad day...

I think I've worked out what is missing from this series - a story arc. I always found Star Trek Voyager annoying for the same reason, no continuity from one episode to the next (apart from the odd 2 parter), just start afresh with a new story each week and don't mention what happened before.
That (debatedly) works for Doctor Who, which is aimed at todays low attention span yoofs, but Torchwood needs to be more involved plot wise. Its late time slot indicates a desire to pull in older viewers who presumably have a wider range of viewing tastes than the younger Doctor Who viewing demographics. I suspect most Torchwood viewers have also watched programmes like Spooks, Messiah, Waking The Dead, Silent Witness etc. so if its going to stand a chance of success it needs a comparable quality of writing.
Sadly, I don't think it has it, and although the fairy story was, for me, the best one so far, the poor quality writing is what's letting the show down.

I liked the idea of a story based on those fairy photos, it started well but sort of lost its grip in the middle,
But it was better than last week,
Incidentally does any one know when precisely those fairy picture were proven to be fake.

michael salkeld Posted Nov 13, 2006
I Remember watching that Nationwide episode at the time, and being amazed that in the late 70s they couldn’t conclusively say wheather such old photographs were fake or not,
What ashame they lied later on and said they were fake .

Thought the Cyberbabe was a bit and when she said she'd carried out a brain transplant we just fell about laughing. Is Torchwood really a comedy and they've given it the wrong build-up?

I thought that the cyberbabe was what a gay man would think a heterosexual man might fantasise about.
Wrong, wrong, wrong.

She reminded me in a tiny way of the Fifth Element from the film of the same name.

>I've just thought - proper army surplus stores usually sell black plastic strap-on body armour. A bit of shaping and trimming and a can of silver paint and you're away.<
What the hell's wrong with using car bonnets as a mate of mine did once for LARP purposes?
>Incidentally does any one know when precisely those fairy picture were proven to be fake<
Rather like crystal healing and telepathy, obvious cobblers such a 'fairy' photo's don't really command a great deal of anyones time. 'Proving' them to be fake is a bit of an otiose exercise.

STRANGELY STRANGE ( A brain on a spring ) Posted Nov 14, 2006
I have deliberately not read the comments on here or read newspaper reviews of Torchwood.
I have just watched a recording from a few weeks ago of the what appear to be the first 2 episodes, the first one appears to be where the policewoman joins torchwood. The secon where the woman is tken over by an Alien lifeform.
I was reluctant to actually watch the new series as I was woried about Dr Who dilution and son of Doctor Who followed by Grandson, etc.
I aprroached Torchwood with an open mind and tried to ignor the fact that Torchwood is Dr Who letters re-arranged. I think it is a quite interesting series that being based in Britain adds a more interesting touch than the miriad of American Sc Fi series which I sometimes feel are a little distant, literally in distance, lol.
I don't know if it will have the long term staying power of Dr Who, and perhaps shouldn't really as Dr Who is something of a phnomina(sp?) that should stand alone. Torchwood special effects seem quite good, at a guess the programme is made by the Dr Who team, although I could be wrong. Fortunately of the 2 programmes I have seen the special effects doen't seem to be overdone, The main character is of course already known, the lead female, the policewoman is OK, but not a tremendous stage presence so far in what I have seen. The other male actor seems quite interesting, I have seen him on TV before a few times and I like his character in Torchwood, a good balance to the female lead, The other woman seems a bit unforgetable to be honest.
...all in all, I think I will record somemore episodes to watch, it isn't a series I wouold deliberately stay in to watch so far, like Dr Who is, but it is growing on me so far.
