Hey! Just because you've got big scary pointy teeth and can smell blood from miles away you have no right to judge us!

Or to put it another way, Blues is right - it's a mainstream show written for people who generally don't give a stuff about plot detail so long as it *feels right.
And Kerr's also right - Russell also knows that only the hardcore fans will get worked up about certain gaps in the story, which is why he's deliberately written a few in.

And I'm right because I'm awesome!

Watching the 3rd episode again, I do like it, the script and dialogue are very good and it has some nice touches, the chase scene through the gardens makes a n unexpected change of mood, and music.

The chase scene was quite funny from a 'spot the filming location' point of view. I have been to Cardiff enough times now to realise they criss-crossed the city a couple of times change direction every scence and must have ran about 3 miles in section. Excellent fun! they got all the tunnel bits from various points in the city.
The episode was very Buffy/B5ish. The episode and maguffin there so that Jack can talk about changing the future etc. The arc does seem to be what changes in the 21st Century and how he is going to try to make it change.
Oh, and Vin Diesel plays D&D? I always knew being a geek was cool!
Blues is just jealous.

Perhaps only in comparison to people who sit on the internet all day arguing about sci-fi programmes?

>he's just chucked in some poorly executed human interest stuff<
In light of the shows triple whammy of awards this week, I think I'd like to know in who's judgement it's poorly executed?
Torchwood.
Mr. Dreadful - But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am... Posted Nov 2, 2006
Yes, but the X-Factor won an award so that hardly proves anything.
TV awards only exist to re-iterate what the public already knows: Show A is more popular than Show B.

Yes.
You miss the point. The show won a popular vote. Clearly a lot of people don't feel the 'human-interest' (and Bod knows only a sci-fi geek would think 'human interest' undesirable in a story) is 'badly done'.

Mr. Dreadful - But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am... Posted Nov 2, 2006
I never said human interest was undesirable... merely that I thought the human interest in Doctor Who was poorly done. I'm fine with characters having proper backgrounds and worries and whatnot, but we don't need it shoved down our throats with all the subtlety of a brick every single episode.

Again, I ask what makes *you* a better arbiter of what is 'well' or 'poorly done' than the voters in the NTVA?
Torchwood.
Mr. Dreadful - But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am... Posted Nov 2, 2006
The fact I'm entitled to an opinion?
Besides, what makes you or the voters a better arbiter than me?
Torchwood.
Mr. Dreadful - But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am... Posted Nov 2, 2006
That came out all wrong... the fist sentance there should be more along the lines of "I never said I'm a better judge than they are, but I'm entitled to an opinion."
Torchwood.
Blues Shark - For people who like this sort of thing, then this is just the sort of thing they'll like Posted Nov 2, 2006
Yes indeed, but I think you will have to concede that from the RTD's point of view when you say 'it's badly done' he can point to an ever increasing number of awards and quite legitimately say 'I beg to differ'.
Whether you consider it badly done or not (and I would still contend that to say the present creative team 'do not really care about Who' is simply fatuous in the face of the evidence to the contrary), RTD has created a legitimate ratings winner for the BBC. That is the bottom line and all that matters to them.

Well, damn their eyes! I want a programme that's so obscure and full of technobabble that it only gets shown in weird timeslots and has an audience of about five!
Torchwood.
Smij - Formerly Jimster Posted Nov 2, 2006
(I rush to point out, once again, I've never seen it and was simply going for a cheap joke)
Have you noticed how many adverts carry really daft disclaimers nowadays. I saw one last night that had a disclaimer pointing out that it had been filmed on a closed road. As if joyriders take their inspiration from adverts...

don't send anyone to Stargate - it was great for 5 years, good for 2 more and now it is laughable.
What I'm looking for now, of couse, is Torchwood fic... who can point me at some?
