I have driven to work while be subjected to most of an hour of disco music and whatever else the DJ throws in punctuated by traffic bulletins and tropical storm warnings...
So, Karaoke anyone?

Once I had a love and it was a gas
Soon turned out had a heart of glass
Seemed like the real thing, only to find
Mucho mistrust, love's gone behind
Lost inside
Adorable illusion and I cannot hide
I'm the one your using, please don't push me aside
We coulda made it cruising, yeah
Yeah, riding high on love's true bluish light
It's just no good you teasing like you do.

Actually, I *liked* some of the disco-era songs. "YMCA," "You can't stop the music," "Copacabana," etc. They were a ton of fun, a refreshing break from the "Eve of destruction" of some of the previous era's music. I remember going to a few discos in the late 1970s, and just making up steps (I never ever managed to be a fully adequate dancer, not even with expert instruction in musical shows )

I realized two things Friday morning....
1. I know way too many lyrics to disco songs.
2. Prince saw the end of the millenium 16 years ahead of time and the s didn't.

I always liked John Travolta, too, and felt bad that his career went into the dumpster when disco died. It was nice to see his career revive again about a decade later. You see his face in a movie, and it's like seeing an old friend. (I go way, way back; I loved him in "Welcome back Kotter")

I remember Welcome Back Kotter... and Black Sheep Squadron and far too many other 1970s television shows.
How about a song from Grease...
You better shape up, cause I need a man,
and my heart is set on you
You better shape up, you better understand,
to my heart I must be true
Nothing left, nothing left for me to do
You're the one that I want
(you are the one I want), ooh ooh ooh, honey
The one that I want (you are the one I want),
ooh ooh ooh, honey
The one that I want (you are the one I want),
ooh ooh ooh, honey
The one I need (the one I need),
oh yes indeed (yes indeed)

Linda Ronstadt was around in those days. I liked her rendition of "I wanna know if he loves you so, it's in his kiss."
Funny, I don't remember any of the songs from "Grease," even though I saw the movie version. Sometimes I go down memory lane and get totally lost.

You took a wrong turn on memory lane?
We didn't listen to much disco. I remember hearing a lot of Steve Miller, The Eagles, ELO, Boston, Styx, Hall and Oates, Three Dog Night etc.

Let's just say that my memory lane abruptly ends, conveniently near someone else's memory lane, so I just hop over the barrier (usually a low one) and see what the someone else has been up to.

The bit of my memory lane involving dances, parties and boyfriends starts around 1983 or so.
Guess what songs were on the radio this morning.....
"You're the one that I want" and "Dancing Queen".

You're in luck, since I have a very good idea what *he* was all about . "Do you really want to hurt me?" is the song I hate the most in the whole world.

"Weeeelllll, um, yes... I do as a matter of fact." Was my friend's reply the first time they heard that song.
