*sigh of relief*That's good, let's hope the homemade food & its implicit 'TLC' cause that bit of a weight gain,.

JEllen, I am very happy to hear Micio is responding favourably to the antibiotics! And that home-made cat food sounds very interesting ... I've not heard of that yet! But our cats (well, now, it's just our cat) do like to occasionally eat some 'real' food, the same as we're eating. My mom often let Kadoefie eat some of the leftovers of her dinner. But anyways all the best to you and Micio!

Hello Everyone. I have very very sad news. Micio got very ill again Monday, and passed away Tuesday. Her end was peaceful, and she is no longer in pain. I am left with wonderful memories of her, of the 15 years we had together. Micio was a very special cat, a true companion, a class act. I know you all will miss her almost as much as I do, because she has been a real regular here on h2g2. Altogether she lived 17 years, quite a long time for a kitty.

RIP Micio, she surely will be in our thoughts on here; as are you JEllen....what a fortunate life she had with you as her beloved companion.
As others have said, it seems very extra sad when humanoids may not realise the enormous part our animal companions play in our lives, when Yoda passes on, i will be devastated, just as P is still grieving for Edda
I think maybe all we can do is realise that death comes to us all and that our beloved companion had the best life possible we could offer them; i am certain they know when they are truly loved.
Thank goodness she passed away peacefully; she had a lovely life with you; once you are beginning to get over the immediate loss, maybe you could reflect on that aspect. Would your church help organise a memorial service perhaps?
One thing P found helped slightly was: he put together a collage of images of her life, with a message and emailed it to everyone who had ever known her.

My sincere condolences Ellen. Years ago, my Sascha simply slunk off into my darkened basement suite bedroom in the early afternoon. I still hadn't seen her by mid-evening, so I looked in her favorite bedroom spot -under my bed, near the nice cool bsmt. wall. She was already quite stiff & I think a piece of me died that evening. For a month or more, I found myself just casually glancing over to her regular napping spot(on top of the fridge & right beside a window, where I had laid out a rug remnant/trimming)...she would've been-I'm guessing-18 or 19.
