Hootoo addiction?
Ellen Started conversation Jan 12, 2006
I think I am addicted to h2g2! I guess this is not news to any of my fellow addicts. But really, I spend a LOT of time online, and most of it is here. I think it is the whole partial reinforcement thing. I get answers to my postings some of the time. If I got answers all the time I might get bored and go away. Or if I never got answers I would leave in disgust. But I get just enough responses that I am always curious. Part of me worries I should be painting more instead, or at least trying to finish my book Wild Swans. How do you all feel? By and large I have a lot of fun here and I like it. Do you feel addicted?

Your reading Wild Swans? I loved that book
I'm always glad to see you, and don't always respond but nevertheless I'm here when I can get here.
You don't paint enough....and I mean that in the nicest possible way - you have lotsa talent. Gotta do other things tho, otherwise those moments when you do paint won't be as special and coveted.

Hiya!
Addicted?
Me?
Nah!!.. Well, not unless you mean the shivers and shakes and snapping at hubby when the servers kick me out of hootoo..
Otherwise, I am a perfectly reasonable human being

Yup, I took my paintings in to a gallery today, and they said "paint more". So all tonight I have been planning what to paint, and am excited about it.

hi there..i must admit to been totally addicted to h2g2.I do have to limit myself though,!!
I have what would be a "coffee morning" with friends, when i have my first cuppa, and my "hour at the pub" in the evening.....all without moving from the house!!!!
My social life would be retricted without h2,and it saves hubby tugging the wheelchair around!!

Hi JEllen!
I'm addicted, too. But I'm conscious of it, and I know when it's enough . Honestly, I try not to spend more than 1 hour a day here. In the old days when we had to pay for the internet per minute, I sometimes made a list of my online-time, so that the bill wouldn't be too exorbitant. And during the first weeks of wonderful, shiny new DSL connection I spent far too long online, so it was again time for The List of Online Time. But now I've got it reduced to a healthy amount of internet.
But life would be less colourful without h2g2, so it is a good addiction! So many interesting people! And finally people understanding me when I quote Monty Python all the time
I don't get that in real life.

Addicted? Oh yes... even though I don't participate in as many things as I used to.
But since it's where I met the man I love and is still one of the main ways I have to keep in touch with him, it's all good.

Totally addicted. I find whenever something happens in RL i am itching to get onto hootoo & tell everyone about it.
Viking said to me today "how on earth are you going to manage without internet when you are in hospital?"
"It will be the strongest motivation for me to get out of there as soon as possible!"
Yael; did you get the email i sent saying for the postal goodies 'cos i can't find it in my "sent" posts & wondering if it got accidentally dumped before sending!!! (i was trying vainly to clear out some of the accumulated spam & may have got over enthusiastic with click/delete!)

Don't think I did, but I can check again...
Um, no. *shrug*
That's alright though. Just glad to hear you got it!

I agree with suzanne, it's not an addiction it's an interaction
Partial anonymity coupled with intelligent conversation with truely interesting people.....RL has a hard time topping that

Yup, you summed it up nicely there Murray!
Wouldn't it be nice if RL was entirely populated by hooters?
